Job Description

Missouri Online, a part of University of Missouri System (UM System), is seeking a servant minded, collaborative, engaged and adaptable Instructional Design Manager who is eager to lead an instructional design team in program and course design.  This individual’s team assists in developing and maintaining high quality online programs and courses across the system.  The design service vision is to be the experts at providing program and course support to each university in the system in order to provide a quality online education experience for all learners. While all managers are responsible for a core support function; this manager in particular will be responsible for the Course Design and Accessible Learning arm of our work. In this position, the Instructional Design Manager will be responsible for leading their team of instructional designers to partner with faculty through a consultive approach in maintaining high quality standards in course design and development, along with collaborating across design services to deliver shared service support to faculty while fostering student engagement.       

This is a remote opportunity with an estimated requirement for travel for up to 15%.  The travel requirement includes visits to our four campuses as requested and an annual on-site Missouri Online All Staff Retreat, all located within the state of Missouri.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Supervise, manage, mentor, and coach a team of highly skilled Instructional Designers. Lead and direct instructional design resources and development needs within the design and development core support. 
  • Build constructive and supportive working relationships characterized by cooperation and mutual respect. 
  • Oversee process completion of core support activities, reporting and KPI tracking while providing guidance and mentorship to the team as necessary, resulting in increased quality, efficiency and effectiveness of the design and development team. 
  • Adapt to and work with a variety of situations, individuals, and groups.
  • Use judgment to identify, troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day technical, operational, and department related challenges.
  • Capitalize fresh ideas to provide innovative solutions.
  • Keep current on general industry and higher education best practices, knowledge, and new technology trends in instructional design and course development. 
  • Provide input to department strategic plans, procedures, and related goals. 
  • Coordinate resources and set daily, weekly, monthly and semester priorities to meet operational objectives and offset competing priorities.
  • Advocate for and positively represent our processes and services when working with team members, faculty and members of the university community.

Shift

8AM-5PM. CST Monday – Friday

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in related/relevant area and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree related to education, instructional design, or curriculum development and design 
  • 2-3 years experience managing teams
  • 5 years of professional experience supporting teaching and learning online for adult learners
  • Background in training, instructional design and/or education leadership of 1 – 3 years
  • Strong knowledge of and understanding of best practices in various online teaching pedagogies and adult learning
  • Ability to clearly communicate priorities and actively listen to a team, individual team members, faculty and stakeholders
  • Experience in a higher education institution or relatable field/industry
  • Experience working with faculty or clients to create online custom courses or related adult learn digital materials
  • Strong knowledge of project management
  • Superior time management skills
  • Strong sense of organizational accountability

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range:

$70,000 – $76,000 per year
