Each are highly valuable opportunities for an up-an-coming professional.

Contracts are generally paid. Internships and volunteer projects are not required to be paid, but we recommend offering an hourly wage or stipend when possible. The typical hourly rate for an intern or recent graduate is $18 – $35 /hr. Students and recent grads generally are not given software licenses by their academic programs and the cost can be prohibitive to maintain individually. It is helpful to plan to provide software tools needed.

Yes, we recommend using NDAs to protect confidential and proprietary information and products. We also encourage you to consider how the student or grad can use a portion of their work for a portfolio sample. A strong portfolio will help them land their next opportunity.

Most students will have flexible start and end dates. Generally they span one or two terms and often require 150+ hours of work.

The level of guidance will vary based on the nature of the opportunity, the individual, and your team’s availability. Internships often require direct supervision and feedback/mentorship.
