Academics Group

The objective of the Academics group is to drive student achievement. To do so, we must know – what is happening minute-by-minute for the typical child. The student’s daily experience, and thus the path to achievement, emerges from their relationship with the teachers and the content that is delivered in the classroom. Our team is collaboratively organized around these levers. We develop rigorous content pitched at the right level for students to be delivered by a teacher who is prepared to succeed in the classroom. Our Instructional Design department builds the content; our Leadership & Development department trains teachers and school leaders using scientifically-proven techniques; our Learning Innovation department looks at cutting-edge research to generate breakthrough learning gains. Underpinning all of this is the work of the independent Measurement and Evaluation group, which provides Academics with an empirical orientation toward improving that daily experience and, in turn, driving achievement.

Instructional Design

The Instructional Design department produces the learning materials that are used in schools across the communities where we work. This department has team members based in multiple NewGlobe support offices, organized into teams that each work on a portfolio of projects. Driving student achievement through the development of rigorous content is the number one priority. One core tenet of the approach is less lecture (traditional among many schools in our markets) and more student practice. Consistent, rigorous opportunities to refine skills are crucial to a child’s learning progression. The Instructional Design department structures all lessons, textbooks, and other materials to ensure this.

About the Role

The General Program Manager will oversee a variety of projects in the Instructional Design department. The nature of these projects varies – you may work on a remedial reading project one quarter and a secondary math course the next. We deeply value flexibility and openness to change in this role. In all cases, your work will relate directly to the creation of high quality instructional materials designed to meet specific student needs.

In some cases, you will independently work on projects; at other times, you may delegate tasks to a small team of associates. When working with associates, you will need to ensure that they are set up to succeed.  Associates need to execute different projects, like writing scripted lesson plans, that must be completed by set deadlines. The General Program Manager will be expected to determine interim milestones and detailed specifications to provide clarity for these teams. This may take the form of writing step-by-step directions and criteria for success, developing a work plan, creating a tracker to monitor progress, reviewing and providing feedback on work, training, or other interventions. 

When executing projects independently, you will need to ensure that you are managing your time effectively and collaborating with relevant teams to meet deadlines. It will be important to develop strong systems of organization so that you and others can easily track your progress. 

As a whole, this role is a combination of occasional team management, independent task management, and lateral collaboration to ensure high quality production of deliverables. Your success in this role determines the effectiveness of the lessons and products we create for students around the globe.

What You Should Have

  • 2-3 years of experience in education, preferably including curriculum design, people and project management
  • A high degree of flexibility and adaptability
  • Extraordinary attention to detail
  • Ability to collaborate with all members of a team
  • Self-motivation and the ability to independently manage multiple projects
  • An interest in multiple subjects and/or grade levels
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, teaching, publishing, or related field
