Position Overview

The Training and Development Manager is responsible for improving the productivity of the organization’s employees. This position assesses company-wide development needs to drive training initiatives and identifies and arranges suitable training solutions for employees. This position actively searches, creatively designs, and implements effective methods to educate, enhance performance and recognize performance.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Conducts annual training and development needs assessment.
  • Develops training and development programs and objectives.
  • Administers spending against the departmental budget.
  • Oversees the company’s Driver Training Program and updates training needs as necessary.
  • Oversees the company’s Apprenticeship Program to ensure compliance with training and regulatory requirements.
  • Obtains and /or develops effective training materials utilizing a variety of media.
  • Deploys a wide variety of training methods (mentoring, coaching, on-the-job training, classroom training, e-learning, workshops, simulations, etc.).
  • Tracks completed training for employees and maintains record keeping.
  • Trains and coaches managers, supervisors and others involved in employee development efforts.
  • Plans, organizes, facilitates and orders supplies for employee development and training events.
  • Develops and maintains organizational communications such as intranet bulletin boards and newsletters to ensure employees have knowledge of training and development events and resources.
  • Conducts follow-up studies of all completed training to evaluate and measure results.
  • Modifies programs as needed.
  • Maintains a keen understanding of training trends, developments, and best practices.
  • Exemplifies the desired culture and philosophies of the organization.
  • Works effectively as a team member with other members of management.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (preferred degree in education, adult education, curriculum design, educational technology).
  • One to three years experience of qualifying professional experience in a relatable setting preferred; but not required.
  • Proven work experience in leading training efforts for an organization.
  • Experience in a construction environment preferred.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft products (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures.
  • Ability to read, write, and accurately perform basic mathematical functions including adding, subtracting, multiplication and division.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to plan, multi-task and manage time effectively.
  • Strong writing and record keeping ability for reports and training manuals.
  • Ability to analyze issues independently.
  • Ability to perform under deadline pressure.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess knowledge of Company policies and procedures, including safety.
  • Must consistently produce and efficient, accurate work product.

Work Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years in age or older.
  • Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
  • Must pass post-offer employment drug testing, medical exams, and physical agilities testing.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers and/or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.
