Job Title: Learning Designer Internship

Job Description

The Office of Digital Learning (ODL), as a core component of Notre Dame Learning (ND Learning), is seeking a Learning Design (LD) Intern for Summer 2024. The LD Intern will support the ODL’s Learning Design team in the planning, design, and maintenance of a robust catalog of innovative online instructional initiatives from late May to mid-August.

ND Learning brings together teaching and learning expertise from the Kaneb Center for Teaching Excellence, the Office of Digital Learning (ODL), and partners across campus to serve as the hub of learning excellence and innovation at Notre Dame. As an essential component of ND Learning, the ODL collaborates with faculty to design and develop online and digitally enhanced courses with best practices for course development, learning technologies, and delivery strategies to inspire and create transformational learning experiences.

This is a great opportunity for a candidate to gain practical experience with seasoned learning designers to employ evidence-based design strategies to enhance teaching and learning. This opportunity will equip novice learning designers with essential knowledge and skills to prepare for their future careers.

What You’ll Do

The responsibilities of this role are commensurate with experience and educational background. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Assist and collaborate with learning designers on an ODL project(s) to develop course modules, assessments, learning activities, and multimedia assets;
  • Use provided review tools to assess various aspects of an ODL project(s), identifying areas for improvement and ensuring alignment with established quality standards.
  • Conduct research and gather information related to the project(s), including instructional design trends and best practices;
  • Assist with workshops, the Summer Online program, and other program activities as needed; and
  • Report to the Director of Learning Design on project progress at regular intervals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a bachelor’s degree program in Learning Design, Instructional Technology, or other related fields;
  • Demonstrated understanding of learning design processes and practices;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Detail-oriented with strong editing and proofreading skills; and
  • Excellent time management skills and a go-getter attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently finished a graduate degree program in Learning Design, Instructional Technology, or other related fields;
  • Experience with one or more of the following:
    • Basic HTML, CSS, graphic design, instructional design software, authoring tools, or LTIs.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems, Canvas LMS preferred.

Special Instructions to Applicants

  • Time commitment: up to 30 hours per week
  • This is NOT a remote position. This internship requires the candidate to work in person at The University of Notre Dame. Upon hire, a hybrid work schedule may be established.
  • Duration: This summer internship will last approximately 10-12 weeks, with a preferred start date in early summer.
  • This is a paid internship
