J&J Editorial is a growing organization that supports the editorial management of a variety of scholarly publications, primarily academic journals. J&J’s employees are experts in helping editorial offices set priorities and create the workflow necessary for submission growth and timely publication. 

About the Role:

The Senior Manager, Training and Learning, works closely with the Publishing Services Leadership Team to support business growth and enablement. The Senior Manager, Training and Learning, ensures accountability for the development of resources, training infrastructure, and curricula needed to support the success of colleagues across the business unit. Additionally, the Senior Manager, Training and Learning oversees most non-manager level (Professional and Business Support levels) hiring, working directly with hiring managers and division leadership to ensure that each division has the staff needed to support client delivery obligations and future growth. The Senior Manager, Training and Learning also oversees formal Professional Development opportunities provided to Publishing Services colleagues and assists in connecting those opportunities to the broader Wiley community.

How you will make an impact:

  • Strategy:
    • Works with Publishing Services Leadership Team to contribute to overall strategy for Publishing Services.
    • Coordinates with J&J and Publishing Solutions Leadership, People Organization, and FP&A to develop and implement hiring strategies that support new growth but effectively manage the costs supporting revenue in line with profitability goals.
    • Manage hiring projections, budgets, and coordination to plan for staff growth each fiscal year with Publishing Services Leadership and FP&A.
    • Works with Wiley People Organization leadership to develop and implement strategic goals centered around Publishing Services colleagues.
  • Hiring
    • Works directly with hiring managers, Wiley Talent Acquisition, FP&A, and J&J Leadership to coordinate and facilitate hiring needs.
    • Monitors and reports on hiring and retention trends.
  • Training and Learning
    • Works directly with Client Managers and Division leaders to coordinate, develop, and implement training and learning infrastructure and strategy at scale for colleagues.
    • Maintains and facilitates specific, company and level-wide training sessions including the New Hire Orientation and Job level specific meetings.
  • Community
    • Directs internal Publishing Services Committees and liaises with Wiley counterparts including ERG and Global Community leaders.
    • Liaise with Publishing Services and Wiley leadership to coordinate annual conference registration and attendance and manage annual professional society memberships and maintain the associated budget for these costs. 
    • Serves as a direct point of contact with the Wiley People Organization.
    • Works with Senior Director, Publishing Services to plan and implement strategic communication for Publishing Services, including formal Quarterly Updates meetings.
    • Maintains annual budget for Wiley Community Builders for the Cary, NC office.

What we look for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of publishing experience is preferred. 
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in developmental training.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in hiring or recruiting.
  • Active involvement in a publishing society is preferred.
