The Senior Instructional Designer shall be responsible for:

  • Creating engaging learning experiences and compelling course content for traditional classroom, online classroom, self-paced e-Learning modules or a blend of approaches
  • Creating prototypes, storyboards, and design documentation that effectively communicate design approach, while converting them into appropriate interactive modalities (classroom, eLearning, gamification) and managing content within our LMS
  • Developing common frameworks that may include objectives, skills mapping, checklists, assessments, rubrics, and other components
  • Using a variety of methodologies: group lecturing, role playing, simulating exercises, self-studying, on-the-job training, peer coaching groups, etc.
  • Applying style and formatting guidelines to ensure logic and consistency among instructional elements when creating high-end interactivities and related media elements
  • Collaborating with key stakeholders to develop end-to-end learning solutions which include outcome-based learning objectives and deployment strategies
  • Conducting different types of needs assessment (audience/role analyzing, task analyzing, gap analyzing, and content analyzing) and identifying gaps in performance; identifying learning objectives and other performance enhancement solutions; considering timelines and resource requirements needed to achieve scale
  • Participating in strategy sessions and applicable training programs and events to provide insights on learning opportunities, making effective recommendations across the organization, and maintaining relevancy to industry topics, trends and trigger events
  • Reviewing program evaluations, operational metrics, and participant and manager feedback on training effectiveness to make recommendations for program improvement
  • Ensuring all programs and courses are meeting accessibility standards and support an environment that is promoting diversity, equity and inclusion

To qualify, you must have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5-7 years of relatable experience
  • Expert knowledge of adult learning theory and common Instructional design concepts, models, and methodologies.
  • Proficiency with common eLearning authoring tools such as Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate, H5P, etc.
  • Strong foundation in digital common media production tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite or similar products for producing graphics, audio, video, and animation
  • Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to work with leadership and organizational development content.
  • Ability to write effective learning content and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Familiarity with one or more relevant project management models such as Agile, Six Sigma, or other.
  • Ability to complete work independently and prioritize work across multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty and senior leadership.
  • Applies critical and strategic thinking.
  • Highly collaborative.
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a high tolerance for shifting priorities.

Boston Children's Hospital is a 404-bed comprehensive center for pediatric health care. As one of the largest pediatric medical centers in the United States, Boston Children's offers a complete range of health care services for children from birth through 21 years of age. (Our services can begin interventions at 15 weeks gestation and in some situations we also treat adults.)
