Pay Philosophy

The typical starting salary range for this role ($117,000 – $135,000) is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description 

This position offers a hybrid work structure out of either our Boston MA, Plano TX or Seattle WA offices, 2 days in office, 3 days from home. 

Summary

The Commercial Insurance Underwriting Learning Center (UWLC) team is seeking a Sr. Instructional Design Specialist to collaborate with its GRS (Global Risk Solutions) underwriting business partners to produce learning solutions that enable great performance and align with company priorities. 

In this role, you will develop training program goals, overall program objectives and module objectives and work with a variety of subject matter experts to design training curricula and programs, considered complex in nature. This is an exciting opportunity to work with the global UWLC team and see the impact your work can have on business performance.

Responsibilities 

  • Conducts in-depth job-task analysis and/or needs assessment to identify learning objectives and to determine training solutions and other performance enhancement solutions (e.g., management reinforcement, rewards, role clarity, job aids, etc.).
  • Consults with UWLC design and delivery directors and various team members to develop training curricula and to identify individual training program goals, overall program objectives, and module objectives.    
  • Develops learning journeys and training strategies to support the development of employee performance over time.
  • Applies knowledge of instructional design theory to design course content collaborating with subject matter experts, management, trainers, etc. At this level, creates new training programs from scratch, working independently, starting with conducting a formal analysis of training needs.
  • Applies knowledge of adult learning theory to identify appropriate training media and methodologies based on audience learning styles, course content, audience location, point within the learning process, etc. Designs for traditional classroom, online classroom, self-paced e-Learning modules, or a blend of approaches. Training methodologies may include group lectures, role play, simulation exercises, self-study, on-the-job training, computer-based training, etc.
  • Designs and develops e-Learning programs and applications considered complex in nature. This may also include designing and developing MS Team sites, SharePoint, and HTML pages to support the learning audience.
  • Reviews program evaluations, test results, and participant and manager feedback on training effectiveness to make recommendations for program improvement.
  • Collaborates in designing evaluation strategies and tools to measure program effectiveness and to determine whether desired learning and performance outcomes are achieved.
  • Assists in developing measurement and evaluation strategies as well as valid criterion-referenced tests.
  • Comfortable experimenting with and leveraging AI tools to assist in and accelerate the development of learning assets.
  • Manages time effectively across multiple concurrent projects and fully participates in project planning and administration using agreed on tools and processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, in addition to 7+ years of training design experience that includes leading training program design efforts; Master’s degree in Instructional Design or a related field preferred.
  • Prior experience includes working with complex content and designing training for multiple delivery modalities (traditional classroom, online classroom, and self-paced e-Learning modules).
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills and can write for a variety of audiences (e.g., leadership, managers, employees).
  • Demonstrates excellent time management skills.
  • Has broad knowledge of instructional technologies and is thoroughly proficient in the advanced use of e-Learning tools to create courses, video, animation, graphics, and narration.
