Overview

The Specialist I, Learning and Development – Home Office, is tasked with creating and executing professional learning and development programs for S&B Engineers and Constructors, Ltd. under the supervision of the Manager, Learning and Development – Home Office. This role involves collaborating with internal stakeholders to develop tailored learning experiences that align with the needs and expectations of our leadership team and home office staff.

Responsibilities include designing, implementing, facilitating, and evaluating learning and development programs, courses, and curricula for designated functions, while ensuring compliance with established standards and timelines. Additionally, this position involves overseeing project management activities such as program development, logistics, scheduling, and monitoring training attendance in partnership with the L&D Manager.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent professional experience.

Qualifications And Experience:

Minimum 2 years of Learning & Development, and/or Training experience preferred. Demonstrated experience with program design, development, implementation, and training facilitation. Ability to collaborate with internal/external stakeholders using a consultative approach to understand business needs and develop learning solutions to address capability gaps. Ability to build relationships, trust, and rapport. Ability to comfortably present and facilitate to various sizes and levels of audience. Knowledge of a variety of training delivery modes (instructor-Led, computer-based, blended, webinar) is required. Familiarity with competency mapping processes and experience utilizing Learning Management Systems preferred. Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications.

Typical Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Partner with internal stakeholders to design, develop and deliver learning and development experiences that meet the needs and expectations of our leadership team and home office workforce.
  • Responsible for the design, development, implementation, facilitation and measurement of learning and development programs, courses, and curriculums for assigned functions, while adhering to required standards and schedules.
  • Manage and execute assigned projects to include program development, implementation, logistics, scheduling, and tracking of training attendance in conjunction with L&D Manager.
  • Identify and assess learning needs by conferring with managers and supervisors or conducting surveys.
  • Maintain frequent contact with business leaders, vendors, and/or internal staff to furnish and obtain information and resolve issues.
  • Partner with external training and development vendors when necessary to identify and develop learning solutions. Ensures vendors deliver to required timelines and meets quality standards – escalates issues to L&D Manager.
  • Evaluates, leverages, and integrates technology and digital learning tools to encourage learner engagement and continuous learning.
  • Utilize multiple delivery formats including instructor-led, computer-based, virtual classroom, or blended formats to deliver content and training.
  • Participate in career pathing, succession planning, talent management, and professional development plans, for assigned functions.
  • Continually monitors, audits, and evaluates training program performance and effectiveness. Escalates to L&D Manager with alternative training methods/recommendations if expected results are not seen.
  • Ensure internal Learning Management System is updated and aligned with learning needs for assigned functions and training records are updated and maintained.
  • Ensure external professional online learning databases are accessible for assigned employees and available with quality content aligned to learning needs.
  • Maintain an ongoing familiarity with best practices and innovations in the learning and development field to continuously grow and develop oneself, and to apply new knowledge to continuously improve and enhance learning and development programs.
  • Be innovative and inquisitive, constantly looking for new practical and creative solutions for employee learning and development programs.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures, and government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Job success often hinges upon interpersonal communication and relationship development skills, and job tasks require frequent interchange and successful completion depends in large part upon effective interaction and communication with others.

Mathematical Skills:

Position requires the ability to calculate figures and work with fractions and percentages, as well as to apply concepts such as ratios, probability, statistical inference and proportions to practical situations.

Physical Demands:

Work entails daily and relatively prolonged use of a VDT, movements (bending, kneeling, reaching, twisting, climbing) to gain access to files and forms, and occasional lifting (25 lbs max).  Work requires the ability to hear normal conversation, see near objects, and speak clearly.

Work Environment:

Work primarily in a heating and air-conditioned office environment.  Visits to construction job sites within operating plants may be required occasionally.  Exposure to adverse weather conditions and loud noise may exist occasionally.
