The Instructional Designer will create company-wide learning and development programs to support organizational growth goals and initiatives. They will partner with leadership and internal stakeholders to design, develop, and maintain best-in-class experiences to engage learners and drive results.

This is an Individual Contributor position and a hybrid opportunity seated at our Northbrook, IL Headquarters 

A day in the life as an Instructional Designer…

  • Maintain a full understanding of the organizational strategy to achieve sales and financial goals, initiatives, and customer satisfaction
  • Consult with Talent & Organizational Development (T&OD) leadership on continual learning strategies to support organizational goals
  • Diagnose training and development needs in partnership with channel leaders supporting the function
  • Support Field Learning & Development Managers in training needs analysis through regular focus groups, surveys, attendance at key routines, and site visits to develop learning programs aligned to business needs
  • Possess a complete understanding of each associate audience, aligning and adapting as appropriate, and ensure relevance in all learning resources
  • Collaborate with SMEs on course design and development to translate business content into learner-centered experiences
  • Design and develop Crate and Barrel Holdings (CBH) learning experiences and materials utilizing sound adult learning principles and modern, innovative methods
  • Conduct train-the-trainer sessions and facilitate ILT/VILTs, as appropriate
  • Support technical facilitation of virtual learning programs and forums offered through video conferencing platforms
  • Partner with trainers to maximize learning transfer and evaluate courses and materials
  • Support measurement of learning program effectiveness ensuring they meet desired goals
  • Coordinate learning campaigns, enrollments, course offerings, content uploads and course library management within LMS
  • Partner with the HRIS team to support LMS functionality and improvement
  • Stay current on modern learning modalities, best practice, emerging technology and competitive insights, continually examining current practice to influence improvements and simplification

  • Assessment, design, development and evaluation skills of instructional design
  • Proficiency in developing both instructor-led and digital learning using a variety of software tools
  • Ability to think critically to support simplification and efficiency
  • Desire to drive innovation and continuous improvement through challenging existing norms and assumed constraints
  • Ability to provide consultation through effective listening and diagnosis, exercising accurate discernment to support synthesis of ideas
  • Customer service mindset with the ability to prioritize workload and provide timely follow-up and resolution
  • Proven ability to navigate uncertainty and excel in a changing, fast-paced work environment
  • Strong desire to learn and grow in the learning and development field with an innate curiosity about emerging technologies and best practices

We’d love to hear from you if you have…

  • 3+ years of Instructional Design experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (bachelors or graduate degree in Instructional Design Technology a plus) 
  • Experience with Articulate Rise and/or Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, preferred
  • Strong organizational skills coupled with a high level of attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work within and handle multiple deadlines and competing priorities
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively instill trust and respect to foster collaboration with a broad range of personalities and roles
  • Experienced with Google and Microsoft Office Suites
