Summary

Mortenson is currently seeking an Instructional Designer to join the Mortenson family due to continued growth of the business. This role is responsible for bringing best-in-class instructional design, innovative ideas, and non-traditional solutions to business opportunities to help team members successfully perform in role while driving business results.

Hiring Location: Minneapolis, MN

Responsibilities

  • Conduct needs analysis and identify learners, learning objectives, and performance outcomes.
  • Design and develop or update learning solutions, such as online and instructor-led courses, microlearning, simulations, games, videos, or assessments.
  • Apply instructional design principles, learning theories, and adult learning principles to ensure learner engagement and retention.
  • Apply the Mortenson design and development methodologies to the instructional design process.
  • Implement and test learning solutions for functionality, usability, and accessibility in a learning management system.
  • Stay updated on current trends and innovations in instructional design.
  • Partner with project teams and subject matter experts to write effective course design documents and course materials, such as storyboards and instructor-led training guides, using interactive, scenario-based, or simulated learning activities.
  • Source or create graphics and visuals that positively contribute to the learner’s overall experience.
  • Manage course development projects including timeline and resources.
  • Effectively build strong relationships with those from diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate with stakeholders, such as clients, subject matter experts, instructors, and learners.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and value a collaborative and team-oriented culture.
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently meet deadlines and produce high quality work.
  • Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse inputs and feedback.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional design or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in instructional design, adult learning theory, and technical writing.
  • Minimum two years’ experience managing multiple instructional design projects at a time.
  • Articulate Storyline and Rise experience mandatory.
  • Graphic design experience preferred.
