Job Description

The Education Development Specialist supports the mission, goals and strategic plan of Nevada Donor Network, Inc. (NDN). through assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating an organized program for staff education, directed toward the achievement of professional excellence. The Education Development Specialist works closely with the Manager of Education and Development to successfully evaluate all educational and training needs for all staff, as well as assess existing programs and making adjustments as needed. This position may require taking call in order to assess competencies of clinical staff during cases.

Essential Functions
Essential Functions Statement(s):

  • Develop, implement and deliver training programs for varying levels of NDN staff.
  • Develop and maintain continual education support materials to assist NDN training needs. These materials will be used for reference once new hire training has been completed.
  • Consult with the department leadership to assess training needs and develop programs to match these needs. Continually evaluate procedures to monitor and analyze course effectiveness and update curriculum as needed.
  • Document procedures for the operational training process for all departments.
  • Responsible for maintaining employee Training files and records and ensures all training records are current. Staff’s job specific credentials are reviewed and verified annually.
  • Confer with leadership and employees to gain knowledge of work situations requiring training and to better understand changes in policies, procedures, regulations, business initiatives and technologies.
  • Coordinate training schedule with the hiring and training demands of NDN and various department(s).
  • Formulate teaching outline and determine instructional methods such as individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, conferences, meetings and workshops.
  • Select or develop teaching aids such as training handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials and reference works.
  • Conduct training sessions covering specified areas such as on-the-job training, refresher training, etc.
  • Test trainees to measure progress and to evaluate effectiveness of training.
  • Report on progress of employees during training periods.
  • Make suggestions on improving training procedures and processes.
  • Develop strong relationship with all departments to develop course materials and receive feedback.
  • Collaborate with the Manager of Education and Development to address specific training needs identified on performance appraisals, occurrences and organizational audits such as hospital feedback, UNOS, AOPO and CMS.
  • Performs other activities as assigned.

Skills & Abilities
Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant studies, degree in nursing, allied health, paramedic certificate or related work experience in transplantation and/or organ and tissue procurement preferred.

Experience: Minimum 3 years of recent experience in a health-related field and/or 1-2 years in organ and tissue recovery/transplantation. Project management and education/training experience are preferred.

Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and ability to master the administration of a Learning Management System
