The Experiences + Devices (E+D) Executive Management Office is looking to fill a key Learning & Development Instructional Design role focused on building a more strategic and structured approach to how learning experiences are executed across engineering teams in E+D.

As part of the E+D executive office, it will be essential to uphold the team’s philosophy to operate with the highest level of confidentiality, integrity, inclusivity, and trust. In this role as a Director Instructional Design, you will orchestrate across many stakeholders for core deliverables and requires an individual who is a team player, a self-starter, strategic thinker and adaptable to jumping in to solve issues and drive solutions across the business.

The E+D Employee Experiences team designs, implements, and operates large-scale global programs across the Experiences + Devices organization that support Microsoft’s aspire-to culture of creating an environment where everyone can be their full, authentic selves in alignment with our values of accountability, integrity, and respect, and do their best work every day.  There are different programs in the E+D Employee Experiences portfolio and growing.  We are an agile self-driven team that depends on one another and delivers!

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, Technical Writing, Paralegal, or related field AND 8+ years experience in instructional design, experience design, education
    • OR Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Education, Marketing, English, Communication, or related field AND 6+ years experience in instructional design, experience design, education
    • OR Master’s Degree in Psychology, Education, Marketing, English, Communication, or related field AND 4+ years experience in instructional design, experience design, education
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in handling problem-solving and working knowledge of learning, development, and skilling.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Education, Marketing, English, Communication, or related field, or related field AND 12+ years of experience in instructional design, experience design, education
    • OR Master’s Degree in Psychology, Education, Marketing, English, Communication, or related field AND 8+ years instructional design, experience design, education
    • OR Doctoral Degree in Psychology, Education, or related field AND 5+ years experience in instructional design, experience design, education
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Sound judgment that incorporates analysis, a pragmatic approach, and consideration of business goals and stakeholder priorities to get to the right outcome for the organization and the company.
  • Experience leading and managing global virtual teams and programs and have influence management skills.
  • Flexibility, proactiveness, teamwork, and ability to effectively communicate with all levels of a geographically dispersed audience and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adaptable and good at context switching. You’re comfortable to flex between strategy and execution.
  • You have organizational agility and ability to work successfully across a complex environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize the complex – able to take multiple, complicated, disparate inputs and transform it into simple, clear, succinct actions and initiatives.

Instructional Design IC5 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,200 – $194,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $142,200 – $213,200 per year.

Responsibilities

As a Director Instructional Design, will focus on designing and implementing E+D’s Learning Management Framework in close partnership with HR’s Learning and Development team.

Some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Conducts design research to empathize with learners, understand their context within the broader system, and validate their learning needs.
  • Defines the problem statement and determines the learning outcomes, aligning learner needs to business goals.
  • Takes a human-centered, iterative design approach to develop learning experiences that are discoverable, relevant, and engaging.
  • Leverages 1st party and 3rd party technologies to create coherent, end-to-end learning experiences that may use a variety of delivery methods including facilitated sessions, digital experiences, or other blended learning modalities, that support measurable shifts in knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Ensures inclusive design principles are applied and all designs meet or exceed Microsoft’s Accessibility Standards.
  • Collaborates with suppliers and vendors, as needed, to develop content.
