The Instructional Designer is responsible for the development of sales, product and product technical training materials for both internal and external audiences. The Designer works closely with product management, R&D, marketing, and sales teams to determine requirements and gather content, and develops presentations, hands-on exercises and other materials for in-person, webinar, and LMS-based training for plumbers, distributors, and other audiences.

This position will serve our Commercial Water business.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and marketing teams to ensure content accuracy and alignment with product specifications and company branding.
  • Ensure that all training materials are designed with a deep understanding of how adults learn, incorporating methods that enhance retention, engagement, and practical application of knowledge.
  • Develop visual content that effectively communicates the value proposition, features, and benefits of our water heating products.
  • Create engaging training materials including presentations, video modules, and hands-on exercises for various training platforms such as in-person sessions, webinars, and LMS-based training.
  • Utilize proven instructional design methodologies to create content that meets diverse learner needs and aligns with the company’s educational objectives.
  • Conduct training sessions as required, including leading webinar-based training and supporting in-person training efforts.
  • Ensure all content is consistent with brand guidelines, maintaining a cohesive and professional look across all materials.
  • Utilize graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) to create visually appealing content that enhances understanding and engagement.
  • Create engaging and informative product guides, brochures, and other resources to support product launches and marketing campaigns.
  • Contribute to the development of a content strategy that supports the company’s business objectives, focusing on customer education and product promotion.
  • Analyze user feedback and performance metrics to continuously improve the effectiveness of content materials.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, competitor content, and new technologies in the water heating sector to ensure our content remains relevant and competitive
  • Collaborate closely with sales, product management and engineering teams to deeply understand new product developments.
  • Partner with sales, customer experience, product, and marketing teams to identify training needs for both new and existing products.
  • Develop comprehensive training content to support product launches and ongoing product education, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines and product messaging.
  • Liaise with external agencies and partners to develop and deliver high-quality training content.
  • Collaborate with customer call centers, including tech support and order centers, to address training needs and ensure consistent messaging.
  • Be prepared for periodic travel as needed to support training initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Marketing, Communications, Technical Writing, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in content design, graphic design, or a similar role, preferably in a technical or product-focused industry.
  • Experience in the water heating, plumbing, HVAC, or energy sector is a strong advantage.
  • Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Proven experience in instructional design and e-learning development
  • Strong knowledge of instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and educational technologies.
  • Proficiency in authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, or similar software.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and knowledge of SCORM standards is a plus.

How To Stand Out:

  • Previous experience in customer-facing training, particularly within the water heating or HVAC industries.
  • Deep product knowledge, specifically in water heaters, HVAC systems, troubleshooting.
  • Relevant certifications and a commitment to ongoing professional development in the field of training.

The pay scale for this position in California, New York, or Connecticut is $83,808 – $134,028. Please note all pay ranges are broadly stated and any final offer is dependent on factors such as location, direct experience, market guidance and internal equity, among other qualifying criteria.
