The opportunity

The Learning Management Systems (LMS) Administrator is a member of the ITS Academic Technology group and reports to the Manager of LMS Operations.  In this position, you will assist with managing the technical aspects of the Learning Management System and related components. You will be responsible for daily LMS operations including implementation of ongoing functional and process enhancements aligned with business and partner needs. Responsibilities include database support, third-party software integration, data integration, ongoing testing, documentation, and resolution of complex customer issues. The LMS Administrator works with academic partners and other LMS and ITS team members to ensure secure and reliable performance of the LMS. You will participate in several academic technology projects to support integrated learning solutions across the University. This role can be 100% remote, in consideration of our approved states. #LI-Remote

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • You will support implementation, development, integration, and ongoing operations for the D2L/Brightspace LMS including Learning Technology Interoperability (LTI) and other system add-ons.
  • You will troubleshoot and resolve issues with the LMS environment including inter-system data integrations (e.g., SIS to LMS).
  • You will perform monthly release testing and contribute to routine system testing to validate performance; identify shortcomings with goal to ensure understanding of our needs and highest level of data security.
  • You will recommend, plan, design, develop, test, build and validate LMS-related enhancements, process changes, customizations, and upgrades to improve the LMS environment.
  • You will be a liaison to LMS partners (faculty, students and staff) to gather/analyze functional requirements for service improvements and changes.
  • You will perform LMS troubleshooting and support L2/L3 ServiceNow tickets and requests following Service Level Agreements (Service level agreements.)
  • You will maintain communication around issues and opportunities; communicate across teams from system end-users through senior management.
  • You will create and maintain effective product and process documentation.
  • You will support technical projects, including developing diagrams, charts, and data to explain complex topics such as data flow, system use, and trends related to LMS environment.
  • You will collaborate with vendors as needed to obtain information and resolve issues.
  • You will help manage and enforce LMS standards, policies, and procedures.
  • You will maintain knowledge of products, developments, and trends in LMS and related software.
  • You will have work flexible hours as necessary.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

What we’re looking for:

  • 2+ years of relevant application support experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, Instructional Technology, or related field.
  • 4+ year of direct LMS experience in lieu of degree is acceptable.
  • 2+ years LMS system administration in a production setting.
  • 1- 3 years working with Student Information Systems (Colleague, Banner or similar).
  • 1- 3 years testing and evaluating a production system.
  • 1- 3 years working with relational databases (MS SQL, Oracle, MS Access).
  • Experience with LMS including related tools and operational processes.
  • Experience with LTI and/or other LMS extensibility standards/technologies.
  • Experience in managing customer relationships in a positive, proactive fashion.
  • Experience working in an environment that follows security and compliance standards.
  • Proficient SQL skills and LTI installation skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills including root cause analysis for complex problems.
  • Ability to audit SIS-LMS data.
  • Ability to prepare process documentation using industry standard tools and techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to learn new skills through independent research.
