Job Purpose:

Excellent opportunity to work with a growing and dynamic team to help grow and foster digital and online learning. The Instructional/Course Designer will be responsible for working with faculty, staff, and administration to build, design, assess courses.  The successful candidate will foster collaborative partnerships with faculty in the design, planning, and evaluation of courses, learning environments, and active learning experiences by employing best instructional design practices and principles. Additionally, online learning data collection, analysis, and assessment duties may be required as needed. The Instructional/Course Designer is expected to stay informed on new emerging digital learning tools and learning design evidenced based practices. 

Supervisory Authority:
The Office of Digital and Online Learning is seeking an Instructional/Course Designer. This position reports to the Assistant Provost for Digital and Online Learning. This position may also work under the supervision of the Director of Learning Design and Quality Assurance as well as specific project leads depending on assigned projects. This position will also work collaboratively with members of the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (CETLA).          

Nature And Scope:
This position will work with all colleges and schools across the university to support digital and online learning initiatives.

Principal Accountabilities:
The Instructional/Course Designer will assist the Assistant Provost for Digital and Online learning with supporting faculty and ensuring quality assurance that provides exceptional digital learning experiences, ultimately producing distinguished and compassionate leaders who impact the world.

Core Competencies:  

  • Prepare student-facing support materials for online and hybrid instruction or lab experiences, in consultation and/or collaboration with faculty content experts.
  • Assist faculty with the selection of instructional strategies, articulation of measurable course and lesson learning outcomes.
  • Advocate for and research best practices for teaching and learning.
  • Analyze instructional problems and develop and implement potential solutions to these problems.
  • Review courses during the design, development and delivery phases for sound learning/instructional design practices and quality assurance.
  • Serve on online course review teams.
  • Applies WCAG accessibility standards to instructional materials.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with diverse audiences;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Universal Design for Learning
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive and culturally responsive teaching strategies and practices.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in appropriate discipline to include Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Education or related field.
  • Two years or more experience in the design and support of instructional technology; Quality Matters certifications & experience preferred.
  • Two years or more of teaching and or training and development experience (including experience with adult learners).
  • Knowledge of and experience with the practical application of instructional design methodologies and best practices, adult learning principles, and instructor-led, computer-based, and web-deployed training programs.
  • Strong technical skills using or ability to learn the core technologies and Web 2.0 tools (e.g., Learning Management Systems (i.e. Blackboard, Canvas, etc), Echo 360- Universal Capture, Proctorio, Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, Prezi, Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline, Zoom conferencing, and Microsoft Office Suite); and facility with Macintosh and PC platforms.
  • Be energetic, creative, have the ability to multi-task, prioritize and demonstrate initiative.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships, work as a member of a team. 
  • Excellent communication & presentation skills to a variety of audiences, ability to adjust interaction style to a range of audiences and ensure the insights, ideas, & expertise is expressed & considered.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask to handle multiple projects in a timely manner.

Compliance Salary Range Disclosure

Expected Pay Range: $75,000 – $87,500
