Job Summary

HGSE is a diverse community of learners, teachers, and employees who are passionate about changing the world through education and striving for maximum impact in the field of education. The Curriculum, Pedagogy, and Learning Designer (CPLD or LD) oversees development and implementation of professional development courses that help educators at all levels of education strengthen their capacity to teach civics content and skills. The work will be performed as part of the DESE Civic Pathways initiative, a three-year project funded by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to support the development and delivery of civics-focused professional development for MA public school teachers. The role will focus on Grades K- 5. The role will include 1) supporting the teachers who are designing of 6 workshops and 6 online modules for K-5 teachers on civics, 2) working with lead Learning Designer on all offerings for coherence, consistency, and clarity, 3) providing support for the overall learning design processes for the 12 offerings. 

The support of MA public school teachers as they design and teach online courses focused on civics and history topics and pedagogical approaches:

  • Supporting teachers in adhering to timelines
  • Provide regular check-ins & guidance and feedback to teacher/course designers. 
  • Maintain documentation/notes of meetings. 
  • Keep others on the Civics Pathways (CP) team apprised of progress.
  • Compiling and sharing resources with teachers
  • Sharing drafts of workshop and course slide decks with the CP team for graphic design and formatting. 

Position Description

  • Serve as core support for teachers designing elementary (Grades K-5) pathways offerings (6 workshops, 6 online modules). 35%
  • Provide learning design support to teachers as they design and facilitate workshops and online modules focused on civics and history topics and pedagogical approaches. 30%
  • Assist development and delivery team in the transition from drafts to course platform. 15% 
  • Participate in evaluation of course effectiveness. 10%
  • Support the work of the Civics Pathways team as needed for the project’s learning design and revision deliverables. 10%

Basic Qualifications

Teaching experience is required in US K-12 public schools, especially in Grades K-5. Professional development design and delivery is preferred.

Work Format Details

This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
