Seattle Colleges is looking to hire a Learning and Development Manager in our Human Resources department.

Salary Range for this position is $75,612/yr. to $104,416/yr. annually

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Vice Chancellor of Human Resources, the Learning and Development Manager will be responsible for leading the creation and improvement of District employee training and development programs and supports the growth of college professional development opportunities and programs throughout the Seattle Colleges District (SCD). Responsibilities for employee development programs include the content creation and delivery for mandatory and developmental employee trainings, development and operation of performance management systems, creation, and management of leadership development programs, and directing ongoing employee professional development programs.

This position is full-time, working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, primarily 8am to 5pm. This position will work in a hybrid work modality with a mixture of on-site and remote work.

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT-SPS.

What you will be working on:

  • Develop, update, and implement training procedures, manuals, guides, and course materials, such as handouts and visual materials.
  • Assess training needs through surveys, round tables with new hires and established employees, and consultations with management.
  • Collaborate with departmental leaders to assess training needs and develop customized training solutions.
  • Design and deliver engaging training programs tailored to meet the needs of employees at various levels within the organization using a variety of instructional techniques and formats, such as self-directed or instructor lead training, role-plays, simulations, team exercises, group discussions, videos, gamification, and interactive lectures.
  • Facilitate training with training managers (train the trainer (TTT), internal teams and external teams.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and record the effectiveness of training interventions, providing reports and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • As relevant, manage internal project and learning management tools (e.g., create tickets, oversee user permissions in training portal, etc.)
  • Track training requests from stakeholders.
  • Manage the logistics of training programs, including scheduling, venue arrangements, and materials preparation. Maintain a training calendar with training specifics.
  • Using data analytics (HR data, Help Desk contacts, Customer Satisfaction survey results), identify departments and teams experiencing challenges that can be remediated with training and develop and implement instructional materials and remediation plans.
  • Direct employee training and development efforts including:
  • Direct development and implementation of employee performance evaluation systems.
  • Designs functionality and content (questions, competencies, etc.) of online performance evaluations.
  • Collaborates with departments in need of team building exercises.
  • Develops and maintains a library of training & professional development content.
  • Creates tools for 30-day, 60-day, and 90-day follow-up checklists to be used by supervisors of new employees.
  • Participate in the on-boarding process for new hires, working closely with stakeholders to ensure a smooth, welcoming experience for all employees.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of training trends, developments, and best practices.
  • Assist in the management of the District training budget, ensuring cost-effective delivery of training programs.
  • Work collaboratively across the district and lead (if directed) projects and initiatives in support of student success.

What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with curriculum development and adult learning theory.
  • 3 or more years of experience in training and development, with a proven track record of designing and delivering effective training programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing organization wide leadership development programming.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and group presentation and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage and inspire participants of diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and project management skills, capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and maintain credibility with employees and interested parties across a multi-campus college District community.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.
