Summary of Job Duties:

The instructional technologist will support the Instructional Support team and will work closely with faculty to share best practices, take care of IS service tickets, handle basic LMS and their educational technology administration.  They will have strong communication skills, an appetite for collaboration and an understanding of instructional design principles and practices. The instructional technologist is a member of the Instructional Support department. The position reports to the Director of Instructional Support.

Qualifications:

Education & Work Experience: Minimum requirements include a bachelors degree in instructional technology, instructional design, or a closely related field, and at least 1 year experience working in instructional design or technology.  Master’s degree in related field and experience in higher education is preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: To perform the job successfully, the following competencies are required for the essential functions of this position:

  • Familiarity with Blackboard or other LMS and online educational resources and tools
  • Knowledge of ADA requirements for online course delivery
  • Demonstrated competence in Microsoft Office 365, Zoom, and Teams
  • Preferred experience with screen capture software, Adobe Creative Cloud, and video management software
  • Experience in academic coursework development and production
  • A desire to continuously learn and explore emerging eLearning techniques and technologies
  • Excellent verbal, creative, communication, collaboration, and presentation skills
  • Excellent time management skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks and to deal with multiple constituencies concurrently to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team under minimum supervision
  • Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for part of these requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Training:

  • Assist the IS team with administration and training for academic technology resources (video storage, online proctoring, etc.)
  • Support the IS team in training faculty
  • Maintain and update training and template courses and materials.
  • Work with Instructional Designers in the development of help and support documentation

System Administration:

  • Assist Instructional Designers with basic Blackboard administrative tasks including creating course shells, adding instructors to course shells, etc.
  • Work with IT to archive courses and manage retention of course data

Instructional Support:

  • Support faculty and Instructional Designers to make sure courses are in compliance with UAFS online course standards
  • Help identify, develop, and implement eLearning solutions in support of online course development.
  • Support the Instructional Support team in answering faculty questions and concerns. 
  • Other Instructional Support related duties
    • Perform other work-related duties as assigned

Additional Information:

Working Relationships: This position works with faculty, staff and students in training, support, and consultation to ensure effective and engaging online teaching and learning. Works closely with Technology Support staff in the administration, maintenance, updating, and troubleshooting, including student support, to maintain and support the Blackboard Learn learning management system.

Special Job Dimensions: Work includes office, lab, and classroom settings, including assisting users with technology. Includes some setup of audio and video equipment in labs, offices, and classrooms. Some minor lifting and working under desks (to adjust cables and equipment) is occasionally required.

Salary Information:

$45,000-50,000/year, commensurate with education and experience.
