Purpose

UT Austin is seeking an innovative, creative, and curious instructional designer to join a new Career Success initiative to integrate a life design framework across the Forty Acres. The Life Design Instructional Designer plays a pivotal role in designing instructional programs, curriculum, and materials related to the campus-wide implementation of life design at UT-Austin. Life design is a framework that helps students to design a career and life of purpose through being curious, developing connections, trying stuff out, and personal storytelling. This individual will collaborate closely with the colleges, schools, and units (CSUs) to design, develop, and implement innovative learning experiences. Working closely with the director of life design, this individual will implement an assessment strategy to measure the success of life design offerings. The life design team is housed within Career Success, which serves as the central nerve center to the career ecosystem at UT Austin.

Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development: Working in tandem with colleges/schools, career centers and campus partners, develop course outlines, syllabi, assessments, and learning activities that are aligned with life design program objectives and meet quality standards.
  • Instructional Design and Materials Creation: Employ instructional design principles and techniques to create engaging and effective learning experiences, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies and technologies. Create high-quality learning materials in Canvas, PowerPoint, Canva, websites, and create printed materials.
  • Instructor Support: Work in collaboration with instructors and staff that will be teaching life design modules and workshops to best use curriculum and instructional resources.
  • Assessment Development: Develop and implement assessment strategies to measure student learning outcomes and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Professional Development: Participate in professional development activities to stay current on life design education and instructional development.
  • Other duties as assigned to support Career Success

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Teaching and facilitation experience, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Proficiency in educational technology tools and platforms.
  • Experience with learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas.
  • Strong design skills, especially in Canva and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Qualtrics to create assessment tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in education technology, instructional design, or higher education (other master’s degrees will be considered)
  • Teaching experience in higher education
  • Training and/or certifications in life design
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and universal design for learning.

Salary Range

$65,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

Standard office environment. Work will be performed in person on the UT main campus in Austin, Texas.

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
