Job Description:

The Office of Distance Learning is currently looking for an Instructional Designer.

The Instructional Designer will support faculty in designing and developing learner-centered online and hybrid courses, instructional materials, and active learning strategies. This position also involves advising faculty on creating accessible instructional materials, applying pedagogical principles to technology-based teaching, utilizing instructional technology tools, and effectively incorporating online resources into their instruction.

Responsibilities:

  • Work one-on-one or in small groups with faculty to develop technologically enhanced online and hybrid courses.
  • Collaborate with instructional designers for the consistent development and redesign of exemplary courses.
  • Assist faculty in revising and redesigning current courses.
  • Contribute to the development of course materials.
  • Support faculty in creating accessible materials and programs.
  • Advise faculty on the pedagogy of technology-based teaching.
  • Work with faculty on technology-based delivery of courses materials.
  • Design, deliver, and assess workshops and presentations on pedagogical best practices and appropriate integration of instructional technologies, including learning objectives, active learning strategies, and assessment methods.
  • Communicate effectively in large and small groups, as well as in writing.
  • Research, evaluate, test, and assess current and emerging instructional technologies and innovative teaching strategies.
  • Participate in working groups and committees.
  • Engage in professional development to stay current with learning theories, pedagogical advancements, and technological developments.

This position may be eligible for hybrid work arrangements.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education technology or related field.
  • Four years of experience in instructional design and/or online teaching in higher education.
  • Experience in building synchronous and asynchronous online courses.
  • Familiarity with assessment techniques.
  • Proficiency in using instructional technologies.
  • Experience with engaging multimedia content creation.
  • Proven experience working with Brightspace (or other learning management systems).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate preferred.
  • Experience with SUNY Online Course Quality Review Rubric (OSCQR) or Quality Matters.
  • SUNY or Online Learning Consortium (OLC) online teaching certificate or trainings.
  • Training in accessibility standards and best practices.
  • Familiarity with web content accessibility guidelines, ADA compliance, and UDL teaching practices.
  • Experience in designing, developing, and delivering instructional workshops or presentations.
  • Experience with grant writing or funding proposals.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time UUP position.

  • For the first 10 working days, beginning Friday, October 25, 2024, and ending Thursday, November 7, 2024, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.

  • SALARY: $70,000 + $3,400 in downstate location pay = $73,400 Compensation.
