Job Summary/Basic Function:

Teachers College is seeking an Instructional Designer. Teachers College is currently expanding their portfolio of online degree programs and this role will play a significant part in helping to shape innovative and high quality content for these new programs. Additionally, this role will also be focused upon developing courses for TC Academy. TC Academy reimagines and transforms the delivery of non-credit offerings as part of a new unit within Teachers College that partners with faculty and other stakeholders to design and deliver high quality programming, such as executive education, pre-college programs, and professional development.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for higher education and adult professional development along with an outstanding aptitude for teaching and learning new technologies. The candidate will also be able to communicate professionally and personably with any faculty, student or staff and demonstrate a high level of empathy and proactive problem-solving abilities. It is also essential that the candidate be able to work with minimal supervision, juggle multiple projects, and maintain a “can do” mindset even when facing daunting challenges.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Instructional Designer, the Instructional Designer will be a key contributor to developing instructional media, course content, and support materials.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

Course Design and Content Creation

  • Work with instructors and stakeholders to design and develop online courses ensuring high-quality course materials are created and courses fulfill their objectives while providing a quality learning experience
  • Serve as a consultant to faculty and internal partners to analyze learning needs, application of various instructional design models and delivery systems to meet those needs, and tools to achieve and measure student learning outcomes
  • Identify and integrate relevant media resources in collaboration with instructional design team members and other stakeholders throughout Teachers College
  • Ensure the accessibility and usability of multimedia and course content for diverse learner needs

Quality Assurance & Project Management

  • Conduct thorough reviews of course materials, ensuring accuracy, coherence, and adherence to established instructional design standards
  • Monitor and record projects through project management and tracking software to inform stakeholders of progress in content, features, and functionality

Development and Instruction

  • Assist Instructional team in updating and maintain style guides and course templates
  • Think critically about workflow and practice and propose creative solutions for process improvements
  • Participate in strategic initiatives to drive innovation and operationalize quality at scale

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2-4 years of related experience
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (Canvas, D2L others)
  • Ability to work in person

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Comfort with updating and revising HTML
  • Proficiency in multimedia development tools, prototyping software and e-learning authoring tools such as Articulate 360 or Adobe Captivate.
  • Familiarity with instructional design theories, principles, and best practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and video conferencing tools (Zoom).
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Experience working at a higher education institution, educational organization, or a corporate training environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.

Salary Range: $70,000.00
