Responsibilities

About the Instructional Designer:

The Instructional Designer is responsible for supporting GM Financial’s learning needs across the organization. This individual will determine the best instructional strategies for training design, development, and delivery and carry out those strategies. This person will be responsible for internal department coordination to ensure consistency in creating training materials. This team member will determine documentation requirements and discuss with subject matter experts, information required to develop training materials.

What you will be doing:

  • Create and maintain content for learning projects
  • Design, develop, and deploy technology-based training that is delivered online, facilitator-led, or any combination of the two
  • Attend project meetings and work with subject matter experts in the business units to define the training approach
  • Stay current on all instructional design theory and strategies
  • Use all appropriate tools for developing technology-based training courseware
  • Attend continuing education courses as directed by the supervisor to stay current on training technologies and methods
  • Establish and meet time-bound deliverables
  • Conduct periodic instructional design reviews of learning deliverables both during development and after delivery
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Conform with all company policies and procedures


Qualifications

What makes a dream candidate?

 

  • Working knowledge of the financial industry and the ability to understand GM Financial’s core business functions
  • Proficiency in Instructional Design theories is required
  • Experience with development methodologies like ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) and Instructional Systems Design
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • This individual should be experienced in developing technology-based training courseware
  • Proficiency in Instructional Design theories is required
  • Proficiency in learning development software, including Adobe Captivate
  • Proficiency in Flashform is a plus
  • Experience with on-demand, just-in-time delivery is required
  • Experience with development methodologies like ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) and Instructional Systems Design is desirable
  • Ability to accommodate different learning styles and account for learner modality preferences in design is required
  • Proficiency in learning development software
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, Macromedia Authorware, and Macromedia Dreamweaver, is a plus

Experience

  • 0-2 years prior experience in planning, managing, developing, and delivering documentation projects required
  • 2-3 years of experience developing online and paper-based training courseware and documentation preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Communications, Journalism, English, or a in related field or equivalent work experience preferred
