Job Summary

The Department of Environment, Health & Safety is seeking a detail-oriented, highly organized Instructional Design/Training Assistant to join our team at the University of Michigan. This position supports EHS Safety Training and requires a mix of collaborative and independent effort to develop effective training materials and facilitate meaningful in-person experiences within a diverse environment. The successful candidate must be professional, demonstrate a high level of integrity and trust, be self-motivated, able to adapt to changing circumstances, and actively model behaviors that support a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

Responsibilities*

  • Apply instructional design principles to build eLearning content and evaluate materials to improve comprehension and the end user experience.
  • Review and test eLearning modules to ensure proper launching and functionality.
  • Work effectively in our learning management system, My LINC, and our design tool dominKnow.
  • Consistent and professional in-person and virtual event logistics; registration, reminder notifications, calendar scheduling, manage rosters, room and audio-visual equipment reservations, coordinate catering, coordinate Zoom recordings, closed captioning, virtual breakout rooms, physical space set up/tear down, hosting paperwork, etc.
  • Manual data entry to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of training records.
  • Design and prepare training and marketing materials, including job aids, program evaluation surveys, informational flyers for print and digital displays, socials, email campaigns, Google site development and maintenance of an organized library of resource materials.
  • Course and equipment scheduling within the learning management and calendaring systems.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to identify training objectives and develop relevant instructional content, and actively participate in meetings to collect information and track action items.
  • Provide customer support for general training, learning management system and audio/visual technology inquiries.
  • Responsible for all aspects of technical event production, including shooting and editing high-definition photos and videos, capturing and recording from the best angle, set up and tear down of equipment, and editing to produce results quickly and accurately.
  • Perform various other training related administrative tasks as needed, such as coordinating package deliveries, printing, developing table tents and name tags, sorting, filing, etc.
  • Handle sensitive information discreetly and make informed judgment calls independently.
  • Able to develop and maintain positive and collaborative relationships and communications.
  • Support a diverse and positive organizational culture, and participate in special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • Able to communicate effectively with excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Proficiency using computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Google Suite applications (Calendar, Forms, Sheets, Docs, Sites, etc.), Zoom and other collaboration tools.
  • Highly self-motivated and self-managed; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong customer service skills, responsiveness to customer requests, and ability to meet the customer at their level of technological proficiency.
  • Able to organize tasks and work under strict deadlines, while producing quality deliverables.
  • Able to quickly learn, understand, and utilize learning management system, authoring, email marketing automation, photo/video editing tools and data visualization software: SumTotal, domiKnow ONE, Klaviyo, Adobe Suite including Illustrator, Express, Photoshop, Premiere Pro video editing software, and Tableau.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing high quality work.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience with databases, course/learning management systems, authoring tools, photography/videography.
  • Project management skills with ability to set priorities and work simultaneously on numerous tasks under strict time and production deadlines, with strong attention to details.
  • Demonstrated organizational and creative problem solving skills.
  • Ability to research and understand complex concepts quickly.
  • Demonstrates continuous willingness and ability to learn new skills, technologies, and industry trends to improve job performance and support to overall team success.
