Job Description:

The Instructional Design Manager will manage, provide guidance, training, development and support for the team of instructional designers. The Instructional Design Manager will work directly with both her instructional design team and the Center’s Leadership team, as well as collaborate across all units in the Center. The Manager also actively collaborates and engages with faculty to provide support and guidance while designing and building engaging online courses and instructional assessments and activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred in Instructional Design, Human Computer Interaction, Information Architecture, Design, or related field.
  • 4 – 6+ years of experience of instructional design and course building experience in a University setting.
  • Knowledge/application of adult learning principles.
  • Attention to detail/excellent interpersonal/communication skills.
  • Experience: content production; higher education/academic setting; course design/instructional design/teaching; designing/delivering/evaluating professional development for faculty; quality improvement/assessment in blended/online teaching formats; delivering research-based, learner-centered course development support.

  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Superior interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and a strong team player.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments simultaneously while maintaining a positive outlook and a collegial, professional demeanor.
  • Ability to expand workload capacity during periods of high intensity.
  • Ability to develop workflows and business procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and successful experience in instructional design field.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead in the decision making related to the instructional design team.
  • Align the instructional design team’s practice to the Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Supervise, mentor, instruct team of instructional designers.
  • Perform evaluations and performance partnership reviews for direct reports.
  • Collaboratively work with direct reports to set meaningful performance objectives.
  • Seek development opportunities for direct reports and team.
  • Identify resource needs and concerns and report to Assistant Director.
  • Foster environment of diversity and inclusion.
  • Collaborate with faculty and production team to design engaging online courses.
  • Manage production process from course design and planning through course launch, delegating tasks, and executing on-time, complete deliverables.
  • Prepare for and lead organized yet adaptive meetings with faculty to gather information and support on customized online course delivery strategies.
  • Articulate and reinforce course development and process and faculty responsibilities as well as establish deadlines and create schedule to produce course within given timeframe.
  • Track and report frequently the statuses of courses throughout the development process.
  • Supervise full process and practices of instructional design team.
  • Conduct course design and development with best practices and cutting-edge technologies and methodologies.
  • Review course materials for quality and consistency.
  • Work with Quality Assurance for final delivery.
  • Seek out and engage with opportunities to think creatively and find innovative solutions to online course delivery challenges – then see them through to successful execution, as well as share and document.
  • Seek ways to drive positive learner outcomes through innovation in digital education.
  • Learn new and emerging technologies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
