General Information:

The College of Education at James Madison University (JMU) is accepting applications for a full-time Educational and Instructional Tech Specialist to support the Educational Technology and Media Center’s mission by supporting faculty, students and staff patrons of the center to effectively utilize the many educational technology resources in the center and prepare them to use educational technologies in their career settings.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and markets available technology training and demonstrations for the faculty and classrooms.
  • Provides input in the development of a system-wide and building level programs that enables students and faculty to use technology as learning tools.
  • Investigates and disseminates information on best practices for technology integration, sources of information on trends, research and applications related to technology use in the college.
  • Teaches demonstration lessons with the faculty taking over class instruction after the demonstration. Is an effective model/leader of the ongoing program.
  • Gathers information documenting the effectiveness of the program, interprets this information, and provides constructive input in evaluation of the program.
  • Provides training to faculty in the use of current technology to meet curriculum goals.
  • Participates in the development of activities that help integrate technology into various curriculum areas at the local and state level.
  • Maintains current knowledge of technology and instructional practices that relate to the use of technology.
  • Provides resource information relating to new techniques and practices that relate to the use of technology and that enable students and faculty to use technology as a learning tool.
  • Assesses the needs and plans for new technology of the college and communicates these to the appropriate personnel or technology committee.
  • Provides assistance in the selection, ordering, receiving, and installing new equipment and software.
  • Communicates with technology vendors.
  • Supervise student workers assigned to Educational Technology and Media Center.
  • Grant and Award budget support, which includes purchasing, hiring and budget reconciliation.
  • Oversight and purchasing for the Electronic Trust Fund in the College of Education.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with current educational technologies and software.
  • Ability to use instructional design, adult learning theories, and facilitation skills to teach educational technologies to others.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and systems quickly.
  • Ability to interact with and build positive relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders including faculty, staff, students.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated exceptional customer service skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Considerations:

  • Budget management, budget tracking, and purchasing experience.
  • Experience with JMU systems is beneficial but not required: HRMS, Canvas, Finance, eVA, and Chrome River.
