Purpose of the Position:

The Director of Instructional Design leads teams to create top-tier online learning solutions. Incumbent will collaborate with senior leadership to set strategic directions for course design and development, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Additionally, incumbent will engage with faculty and stakeholders to ensure the success of all course-development efforts.

What You’ll Do: 

  • Manage and develop direct reports: Set goals, provide feedback, coach, and facilitate growth opportunities for instructional designers.
  • Review and provide feedback: Evaluate coursework and observe interactions in faculty collaborations, offering relevant and actionable feedback.
  • Evolve course design methodologies: Contribute to the development of online course-design methodologies to meet student needs and leverage emerging technologies.
  • Refine design processes: Continuously improve design and course-development processes to enhance production speed and efficiency while maintaining quality.
  • Ensure project success: Oversee projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget, contributing to overall production goals. Clearly and efficiently communicate the status of courses to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strategic resource allocation: Use production data to make informed decisions on resource allocation to meet design organization goals. Assist in the recruitment and retention of instructional designers.
  • Design and develop courses: Strategically design and develop courses as assigned.
  • Manage faculty-stakeholder relationships: Ensure positive and productive interactions with faculty and stakeholders for all projects.
  • Onboard new employees: Lead and coordinate onboarding for new instructional design employees and contractors.
  • Collaborate with project management: Work with project management to scope projects, estimate effort, set schedules, and coordinate deliverables.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    in-depth analysis of issues, in collaboration with others.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum Development, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in curriculum and instructional design, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing instructional design teams.
  • Proven success in recruiting, mentoring, and managing instructional designers, fostering team growth and achieving organizational objectives.
  • Expertise in competency-based learning models and integrating adaptive learning technologies to enhance student outcomes and engagement.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Doctorate in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Healthcare Education, Curriculum Development, or a related field.
  • More than 10 years of experience in instructional design, including at least 7 years in a leadership role managing and mentoring large teams of instructional designers.
  • Experience managing distributed or remote instructional design teams.
  • Extensive experience developing and delivering programs within the healthcare sector, with a strong understanding of industry-specific learning needs and accreditation requirements.
  • Experience designing for adult learners, underserved populations, or international audiences.
  • Advanced proficiency with course-authoring tools (e.g., Articulate, Captivate, Camtasia) and multimedia design software.

Compliance: 

  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable state laws and rules, federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education, accrediting agencies, state regulations and internal policies and procedures.  
  • Effectively communicate compliance requirements to other staff as appropriate and quickly escalate any compliance concerns to the Compliance department. 

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • This is a full-time remote position.
  • Home office set up, quiet place to work, and ability to hard wire into high-speed internet connection.
  • May require setup of computer equipment; accommodation consideration available upon request.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as needed.

Anticipated starting salary is based on experience and qualifications.

$100,000 – $100,000 USD
