Job Description

The salary range for this role is $95,000.00-$110,000.00 and is commensurate with experience.

Based in either of our Bloomington or Indianapolis, Indiana office. It is a hybrid role, averaging 3 days in-office and 2 days of remote work per week.

The Indiana University Foundation is seeking a Director of Advancement Onboarding, Education & Training to drive how we educate and level up our fundraising talent for all 9 IU campuses!

You’ll play a pivotal role in integrating new advancement staff, with an emphasis on frontline fundraisers, into a community that believes philanthropy in all forms will create a better Indiana University. You’ll shape the vision and strategic development of training built on the principles of “the IU Way” by acting as the central point of contact for the comprehensive and ongoing training needed to set up fundraisers for success. In addition to some content design, you’ll leverage the talent of subject matter experts across the organization to drive the creation and implementation of a comprehensive, current, and relevant onboarding and professional development program for frontline fundraisers employed by both IUF and Indiana University. Collaboration on best-in-class fundraising practices is essential for this position. 

Training doesn’t end with onboarding—we want this role to ensure continuous learning and skill enhancement for our advancement community. You’ll be a trusted partner in the IU culture and network of advancement teams across all campuses, schools, and units (CSUs), delivering customized initiatives to grow the best fundraisers and advancement professionals. In addition, you’ll partner with IUF Human Resources to negotiate contracts and deliver any third-party trainings. Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; an advanced degree is highly preferred
  • 7 years of experience in non-profits, philanthropy, training and development, and/or instructional design is required
  • Combination of related education and experience may be considered
  • Expectation to complete instructional design training within 6 months if not already proficient

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 

  • Significant experience in fundraising, advancement
  • Deep understanding of non-profit or higher-education environments, demonstrating effective strategic planning and action plan implementation in fundraising
  • Background in learning and development, with facilitation experience or a clear plan/desire to be trained in instructional design within the 6 months (e.g., Langevin Instructional Design)
  • Excellent presentation skills – ability to convey complex information in a way that connects with diverse audiences
  • Proven leadership skills in project and team management, stakeholder engagement, and influence
  • Ability to navigate comfortably within a complex environment with diverse interests, priorities, and opinions
  • Strong project management capabilities with proficiency in creating a logical workflow for materials
  • Commitment to fostering collaboration across different disciplines and bringing diverse groups together for a common purpose
  • Success in developing collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Application of critical thinking in analyzing and interpreting data (such as survey feedback)
  • Ability to work independently with a strong drive for achievement
  • Aptitude for building relationships at all levels
  • Problem solving skills that help connect the right information to the right person at the right time/place
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain privacy, confidentiality, or anonymity
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite

  • Demonstrated success in building and developing new programs
