Job Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director of Organizational Learning, the DEI Training Specialist Senior conducts DEI educational programs in university units to support each unit’s DEI Strategic Plan goals. The DEI Training Specialist Senior works with the unit DEI Implementation Lead to clarify training goals and coordinate the training session implementation. The DEI Training Specialist Senior designs and facilitates interventions concentrating on the enhancement of DEI knowledge to support a workplace culture that is inclusive, equitable and exemplifies our core organizational values. 

Responsibilities

Training & Facilitation 

  • Facilitate multiple DEI training programs both in-person and virtually to ensure participants understand principles of DEI and are equipped to apply DEI principles within the context of their university work community 
  • Build relationships with university units, DEI committees, and other partners to help implement DEI Strategic Plans. 
  • Design and facilitate virtual and in-person workshops, presentations and discussions on a variety of DEI topics. Ensure that training content is relevant, inclusive, and aligned with each unit’s DEI Strategic Plan goals 
  • Use a variety of adult learning approaches to achieve a unit’s DEI learning goals. 
  • Use interactive techniques to enhance participant engagement and learning outcomes. 
  • Ensure all DEI training programs comply with University policies, legal standards, and accreditation requirements. 
  • Partner with DEI Implementation Leads in schools, colleges, and units to plan strategy and implementation of training programs. 
  • Design and revise instructional material to reflect current research and best practices, and/or partner with instructional designers when needed. 
  • Propose a follow-up approach that facilitates sustainability of intervention(s) and achievement of goals 

Committee Work and Professional Development Committees 

  • Participate on the DEI Ad Hoc Committee in creation of a central learning hub 
  • Represent OL and DEI work on committees and U-M work groups as assigned. 
  • Stay current on DEI and adult learning best-practices; collaborate with colleagues and external experts to share best practices, resources, and approaches to DEI training. 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and education 
  • 5+ years of experience training and facilitating learning and development programs with at least 3 years focused on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion trainings 
  • Strong understanding of systemic discrimination, bias, and microaggressions 
  • Formal training in critical race theory, anti-racism, building inclusive communities or other topics related to diversity, equity and inclusion as they apply to leadership and workplace culture 
  • Experience with new course design and presentation development 
  • Experience building partnerships with individuals inside and outside your organization
