The College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks applications for a Curriculum Manager of the Engagements.  The Curriculum Manager is an important member of the College of Arts & Sciences central administration team who will work closely with the Engagements Program Leadership in both administrative and academic capacities. This person will provide significant operational support for the Engagements Program (https://gened.as.virginia.edu/engagements-program), manage critical hiring and onboarding processes, and assist with outreach to stakeholders across Grounds. The curriculum manager will also manage and oversee all aspects of the Engagements schedule of classes.

The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties:

  • Facilitate and coordinate planning and operational activities in support of the Engagements mission.
  • Collaborate across disciplines and functional areas by building relationships between the program and external stakeholders.
  • Assist the Director of Academic Programs in making operational and programmatic decisions that have a significant impact on the successful achievement of curricular strategies and objectives.
  • May assist in developing teaching materials, as well as participating in professional conferences.
  • May participate or assist in primary research, data collection, interviewing, and analysis.
  • May provide direct student support.
  • Provides administrative coordination for hiring processes for faculty and postdoctoral Engagements searches, including the call, advertising, scheduling, and interviews.
  • Partners with HR for annual Fellows and Postdoctoral hiring in coordination with Engagements Leadership, Department Chairs and Fiscal Administrators, and the HR Business Partner.
  • Develops, manages, and oversees the Schedule of Classes (SOC) for Engagements Program and other centrally administered programs.
  • Manages course scheduling processes, oversees Engagements (EGMT) course creation via Curriculog, and works with faculty to assign course schedules.
  • Oversees enrollment of EGMT courses, including regular student enrollment audits, course swaps, and instructor holds.
  • Supports 110 Class Labs for EGMT courses and offices for postdoctoral fellows.
  • Assists College Fellows Co-Directors with peer review processes for the College Fellows program.
  • Oversees communication needs of the Engagements Program, including Engagements Program website, Teams channels, and listservs. Develops and reviews marketing and informational publications for General Education in the college.
  • Serves as initial contact for student questions regarding Engagements Program. Maintains Engagements Program email.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of general education assessment.
  • Coordinates all Engagements programming, including  scheduling, procurement and promotion, including College Fellows cultivation events, Engagements Experience events, and hiring events.
  • Coordinates programming for College Programs including, Echols, Hoos Getting Ready, summer orientation.
  • Working with the Director of Academic Programs, Engagements leadership, and Department Manager, manages the Engagements budget, including budget development (Curriuclum Planning and OTPS budgeting) and regular accounting.
  • Conducts financial transactions for the Engagements program, including supply procurement, course enhancement budgets, and postdoctoral research budgets.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Qualified candidates must have:

Education: Master’s Degree Required.  Bachelor’s Degree and relevant experience may be substituted in lieu of Master’s Degree.
Experience: Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Experience working with faculty in the coordination of academic programs
  • Experience working with curricular programs.
  • Experience managing program budgets
  • Experience planning large events (100+ attendees)
  • Previous experience working in a university setting.
  • Experience with  Microsoft 365 productivity software, including Microsoft Sharepoint and Microsoft Teams
  • Availability to work occasional evenings

This position is located in Charlottesville, VA. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule, dependent upon department needs and incumbent’s performance.

The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2024. The anticipated hiring range for this position is $62,000 – $72,000. This is an Exempt level, benefited position. For more information on the benefits at UVA, visit hr.virginia.edu/benefits.
