Visiting Instructional Designer – College of Education

Job SummaryThe Instructional Design Specialist will promote the educational objectives of the Early Intervention Training Program by collaborating with team members, subject matter experts, and facilitators to develop, design, and implement dynamic, evidence-based, high quality learning opportunities. This includes curriculum, materials, and resources as well as course management and learning management systems (LMS) maintenance. The Instructional Designer is responsible for staying current with campus-supported and other potential educational technologies and for assisting with the technical development of assigned projects and instructional applications.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Develop, design, and evaluate professional development opportunities for early intervention professionals and state leadership.
  • Follows a systematic approach to curriculum development, including instructional materials and resources for synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities.
  • Designs and develops professional development opportunities as requested by IDHS and/or EITP Director to facilitate knowledge and skill development of EITP adult learners.
  • Creates high-impact designs, including interactive content and activities, while maintaining consistent branding or aesthetic across projects.
  • Collaborates with EITP leadership (Director, Assistant Director, Ombudsman), the Instructional Design and Technology Coordinator, EITP team members and consultants in the development, design, implementation and evaluation of professional learning opportunities.
  • Maintains efficient and effective workflow and communication within curriculum development, review, and maintenance projects.
  • Recommends, advises, and implements changes in collaboration with EITP leadership based on continual program evaluations.
  • Uses technology tools including but not limited to learning management systems (e.g. Moodle, Canvas Catalog), content development tools (e.g. Articulate 360, Canva) and collaboration and social media tools to enhance curriculum and program outcomes.
  • Collaborate with EITP personnel and partner programs regarding the development, design, and revision of professional development opportunities and resources.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled staff and team meetings as requested.
  • Collaborates with EITP leadership (Director, Assistant Director, Ombudsman), the Instructional Design and Technology Coordinator and EITP team members in planning, designing, implementing, and evaluating professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborates with accessibility specialists to ensure all materials are ADA accessible.
  • Analyzes needs of EITP learners and use data to develop curriculum and other instructional methods to facilitate knowledge and skill development.
  • Collaboratively develops and implements learning strategies to support the provision of high-quality services to children and families in the early intervention system.
  • Develops related resource materials for professional development opportunities, research findings or policies and procedure updates.
  • Serves on committees/workgroups to improve the infrastructure of the EITP team and associated learning technologies.
  • Assists in the management and evaluation of technology solutions.
    • Assists in the administration and maintenance of the Learning Management System (LMS) for EITP.
    • Assists with implementing instructional technology for effective and efficient training delivery.
    • Remains updated on technology tools including but not limited to learning management systems (e.g. Moodle, Canvas Catalog), content development tools (e.g. Articulate 360, Canva) and collaboration and social media.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Education Technology, Instructional Design or Technology, or related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience developing and designing professional learning opportunities.
  • Demonstrated experience in instructional design.
  • History of strong collaboration with colleagues in the design and development of professional learning opportunities and related resources.
  • Proficient with learning management systems such as Canvas Catalog, Adobe, Moodle.
  • Proficient with content development tools such as Articulate 360, Canva.
  • Proficient in the Adobe Suite.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Master’s degree in education, Education Technology, Instructional Design, or related field.
  • Working knowledge of the early intervention/early childhood field
  • Knowledge of ADA compliance and accessibility.

 

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Ability to learn basic early intervention terminology and knowledge. Excellent attention to detail, organizational, interpersonal, teaming, and communication skills. Ability to take initiative and act in a self-directed manner, and to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Innovative and solutions-orientated thinker with excellent judgement and professionalism. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

 

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Visiting Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the search posting closes. Hybrid or remote work may be considered for this position. Salary is commensurate with experience. The salary range is $65,000 – $85,000. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements
