Position Focus

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Learning and Development Operations, the Learning and Development Training Specialist provides training expertise to recommend strategy, program coordination, design, logistics management and support for Yale University’s Federated Learning Model, which includes support for Central Learning and Development in Human Resources. This individual implements the training strategy, creates plans, outlines and materials to deliver training that supports Central Learning & Development. They understand institutional needs, the impacts of projects and executes tasks to deliver effective training/learning for Yale University. They may conduct research on professional and academic organizations to identify training and development best practices for program development. And therefore, will analyze data and provide recommendations for future actions.

Essential Duties

  • Drawing upon direct experience with training strategy, planning and execution:
  • Conduct the training needs analysis .
  • Create Training Plan – identify the training material inventory and delivery methods
  • Create training outlines and modules
  • Produce training materials using Word, PowerPoint, Captivate and other appropriate training technologies and tools
  • Relate to previous and new method of accomplishing tasks by quickly understanding system vocabulary, business process and content
  • Using requirements, test cases, and proof of concept information, partner with SME to identify content for training materials
  • Identify and use the appropriate delivery style for the audiences with varying degrees of knowledge and capabilities
  • Ensure the learning environment supports the learning needs
  • Create scenarios for exercise based training
  • Prepare tests for module review or to assess learner’s knowledge
  • Prepare the learning environment
  • Pilot training to project team for feedback and modification of training material and delivery
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and learning outcomes by creating, delivering and analyzing surveys
  • Coordinate and deliver support in a variety of venues including, clinics, one-on-on coaching and phone support
  • Transition project based training to methods to on-going training for new employees
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Required Education And Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Organization Development, or related field and a minimum of four years of related experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1

Excellent written and interpersonal skills.

Required Skill/Ability 2

Knowledge and experience utilizing Software such as Captivate or Articulate to produce digital training materials in general as well as SCORM files of eLearning content.

Required Skill/Ability 3

Expertise in developing and creating digital content.

Required Skill/Ability 4

Demonstrated ability working with SMEs (subject matter experts) to create training materials for a diverse audience.

Required Skill/Ability 5

Extensive experience with all Microsoft Office, Teams and Online Learning platforms. Knowledge and experience utilizing Workday Learning Preferred or related Learning Management Software.
