The Training and Development Specialist is primarily responsible for developing, delivering and facilitating training programs to enhance the skills, knowledge, and performance of transportation personnel. This role ensures employees receive engaging, effective, and compliant training that supports transportation staff professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate Training Sessions: Conduct in-person training sessions for transportation staff covering topics such as construction, right of way, risk, estimating, funding, project management, scheduling, and leadership.
  • Instructional Design: Develop and edit engaging and effective training materials through the design of instructional programs, creation of e-learning courses, and developing instructor-led training materials. Utilize instructional design models (e.g, ADDIE) to structure training programs.
  • Deliver Regulatory Training: Ensure training programs align with federal, state, and local transportation regulations (e.g., DOT, FMCSA, OSHA) and effectively communicate compliance requirements.
  • Engagement and Participation: Foster an interactive and inclusive learning environment by using a variety of instructional methods, including hands-on demonstrations, role-playing, and discussions.
  • Assess Training Effectiveness: Monitor participant engagement, evaluate comprehension through assessments, and adjust training approaches as needed to maximize learning outcomes.
  • Continuous Learning Support: Provide coaching, refresher courses, and ongoing learning opportunities to ensure employees stay updated on best practices and industry standards.

Working Conditions:

  • Office-based position (Austin area) with frequent travel (25-40%) to training sites

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree Engineering, Instructional Design, Education, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in training delivery and facilitation, preferably within the transportation or logistics industry.
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design models, and modern training technologies.
  • Strong public speaking, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and other transportation-related regulations preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • Ability to adapt training approaches to different learning styles.
  • Experience using Articulate or other software is a plus.
