Job Description Summary

Basic Function: 

Develop, lead, and facilitate Office for the Advancement of Teaching & Learning (ATL) efforts to advance effective and modern strategies for equipping and empowering URI faculty engaged in online education, with an emphasis on blended and hybrid pedagogy. Lead workshops and professional development experiences, author cutting-edge resources, and respond to consultation requests from faculty and graduate student instructors. Collaborate and connect with ATL colleagues across teams, and work with ATL campus partners and URI college and university leaders.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Analyze the blended instructional design needs of departments, majors, programs, and courses across the University.
  • Develop and facilitate a faculty training program focused on online education with an emphasis on blended pedagogy and design.
  • Collaborate closely with faculty on creating and adapting courses for blended offerings by guiding and supporting them as necessary on the creation of objectives, sequencing of instruction, use of assessments, and design of course materials through one-on-one consultations.
  • Collaborate with faculty to address challenges and concerns related to student learning in a blended setting and equip faculty to think about teaching through an equity-based teaching and learning lens, as well as in small and large group settings.
  • Develop workshops and other professional development experiences for all members of URI’s instructional community that are relevant, timely, and innovative. 
  • Author resources with the intent to provide additional guidance and support for instructors as they seek to create, develop, enhance, and improve courses and learning experiences developed with today’s learners in mind. 
  • Incorporate an inclusive teaching and equity-based approach into all work produced on behalf of ATLfor members of URI’s instructional community. 
  • Co-facilitate workshops, seminars, and other programming, as needed related to meeting the needs of faculty who teach using blended learning approaches and pedagogical strategies. 
  • Develop and recommend ad hoc blended learning frameworks built upon established pedagogies, for reconfiguration of selected degree programs, associated learning materials, and instructional activities for blended delivery. 
  • Support strategic initiatives for programs or departments as requested and relevant related to digital pedagogies to advance technology infused teaching, and support deep learning, with the view of influencing and enhancing blended teaching practices within and for URI.
  • Collaborate with other colleagues in ATL, and across URI, in order to recommend faculty specific tools, especially emerging immersive and interactive technologies to support in-person, blended, and online learning environments. 
  • Collaborate on related projects within ATL while seeking to be innovative and flexible with approaches for equipping instructors in this area. 
  • Attend all ATL staff meetings. 
  • Other Duties And Responsibilities:
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • May work some evenings and weekends. 

Licenses, Tools, And Equipment: 

Personal computers, printers, database management, spreadsheet, and presentation software; learning management systems, multimedia hardware and software, and development of courseware.

Required Qualifications

Required: 

  • Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of three years of combined experience in higher education instructional design and blended teaching/training.
  • Minimum of two years of demonstrated project management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working with faculty on course design and development for blended and online courses.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of instructional design theory, instructional design principles, learning theory, instructional technology, and/or accessibility principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of faculty development principles, evidence-based teaching practices, and assessment and evaluation principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of emerging multimedia and other technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience using and supporting faculty adoption of a higher education learning management system and other educational technology.
  • Demonstrated presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred: 

  • Ph.D., Ed.D., or terminal degree in Education, Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Demonstrated experience using and supporting faculty adoption of the Brightspace learning management system and other educational technology.
