Senior Project Manager – Digital Learning at UT

Digital Learning is seeking a highly motivated and energetic Senior Project Manager. The successful candidate will thrive in fast-paced environments and will possess the right mix of operational excellence, people skills, and meticulous attention to detail. This candidate will take the initiative, demonstrate a sense of urgency, use good organizational skills, build a project team, and follow through on commitments to achieve high-quality, repeatable results. The Project Manager works closely with all Digital Learning teams, other UT stakeholders, and plays a critical role in managing external partnerships.

This position will manage complex projects across multiple teams, both internal and external as well as providing direct supervision of the project managers on this team. The responsibilities are broad in scope, encompassing a wide variety of activities requiring shifts in priorities. The idea candidate will be flexible and accepting of ambiguity. The Senior Project Manager reports to the Director, Project Management Office of Digital Learning at UT.

This position has the potential for a hybrid working capacity. 

Job Duties

Project Management

  • Manages particularly complex and difficult projects that span across the campus and system, including technology, systems, and data.
  • Plans, develops, implements, and manages a project team through complete task definitions and work requirement identification and assignments.
  • Works closely and collaboratively with key stakeholders, leadership, and other related staff to define project objectives and scope, strategy, schedule, budget, procedures, and outcomes during various phases of the project life cycle.
  • Establishes and continually monitors/manages project expectations with team; assigns tasks and identifies issues for resolution to ensure optimal team effectiveness.
  • Identifies critical resource expertise and targets appropriate internal and/or external sources to ensure optimal outcome(s). 
  • Prepares and maintains all project status reports and schedules; tracks milestones/deliverables, and dependencies; re-sets expectations as needed in consideration of project progress/outcomes.
  • Reviews and ensures that project specifications comply with existing codes and applicable University, state and local requirements.

Staff Supervision & Relationship Management

  • Provides direct supervision to project managers ensuring the successful completion of complex projects through effective leadership and mentorship.
  • Clarifies roles and responsibilities to ensure understanding of expectations and timeline while dictating out project coverage and timelines across team
  • Conducts regular performance evaluations, provides feedback, and supports professional development to enhance team capabilities and project outcomes.
  • Builds, develops, and maintains collaborative working relationships across the university, third-party vendors, and external clients vital to project success, including managing differing priorities and resolving conflict.
  • Demonstrates ability to use diplomacy, tact, and social competency to facilitate meetings and create consensus under challenging situations.

Education & Experience

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • 5 years of related experience which includes 1-3 years of project management experience
  • Proven ability to develop and implement results-driven processes and support growing teams

Preferred Experience:

  • Master’s degree
  • 3-5 years of relevant project management experience with demonstrated experience leading projects and teams
  • PMP or equivalent certification
  • Familiarity with higher education landscape
