Job Description

Primary Function of Position

The senior instructional designer is responsible for creating, managing, optimizing, and training to high-quality curricula that support internal onboarding, field trainers, and sterile reprocessing initiatives, launches, and new product development. This role emphasizes content creation, curriculum development, project management, and training, with instructional design methodologies serving as a foundation for effective learning experiences. The individual in this role will interact with field trainers, engineers, regulatory teams, instructional designers, and multimedia developers to provide training and create educational materials that align with global reprocessing standards, compliance requirements, and evolving industry needs.

Essential Job Duties 

(1). Training and facilitation:

  • Serve as a reprocessing subject matter expert, maintaining up-to-date knowledge, expertise, and certifications to inform and drive training execution and curriculum development.
  • Deliver virtual and in-person training sessions to diverse audiences, ensuring comprehension of complex processes like sterilization protocols.
  • Support reprocessing signoff processes, exploratory in-services, and global I&A expansion and new product development (NPD).
  • Complete required departmental qualifications and certifications.
  • Collaborate and network with cross-functional experts (e.g., regulatory teams, engineers, field trainers, etc.) and align with evolving global reprocessing standards and competency objectives to enhance training effectiveness.
  • Analyze complex reprocessing training challenges by evaluating various factors, including regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and learner needs, to develop effective curricula and training solutions, providing design feedback and input based on reprocessing expertise.

(2). Curriculum design and content development:

  • Create learner-centric experiences, journeys, and training strategy that adhere to adult learning theory and instructional design principles.
  • Design and develop accessible, engaging training materials for sterile processing, internal onboarding, commercial training, trainer field support, and hospital Care Teams and Sterile Processing Departments, including training guides, videos, scripts, e-learning modules, onboarding modules, assessments, and facilitator presentations.
  • Analyze learner engagement, feedback and assessment results to make data-informed improvements to training materials, ensuring relevance and impact in real-world applications.
  • Determine instructional design strategies, assessment techniques, and evaluation criteria to ensure impactful learning outcomes.
  • Establish competency-based assessments and certification programs to measure learner success and competency-based skill development.
  • Lead projects tailored to innovative training solutions, curricula design, and educational materials that address complex challenges while aligning with company objectives and global compliance standards.
  • Lead and support video production, scheduling, and logistics.

(3). Project management and communication:

  • Independently manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a strong ability to change direction based on business needs.
  • Represent the education team in high-level discussions on curriculum development, compliance training, and industry best practices.
  • Lead project management initiatives for curriculum global expansion and new product development (NPD).
  • Coordinate and collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and diverse stakeholders.
  • Engage leadership to advocate for reprocessing education initiatives, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and the development of high-quality curricula and training programs.
  • Participate in organizational and departmental-led initiatives to drive operational excellence, efficiency, process standardization, and improved workflows.
  • Support video scheduling, production, and operational logistics.
  • Mentor and support onboarding of new hires and other team members.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

  • 3-5 years in training facilitation/delivery, technical writing, content development, and curriculum design, with 2+ years of experience in sterile processing and/or hospital OR/Care Teams staff education.
  • Strong skills in writing, editing, and structuring training and instructional materials.
  • Expertise in conducting content and curricula reviews to ensure alignment with learning objectives and organizational standards.
  • High capacity to analyze complex challenges, evaluate data, and implement creative solutions.
  • Thrives in dynamic, team-oriented environments, demonstrating adaptability, growth mindset, and results-focused approach.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with internal cross-functional teams and external partners.

Required Education and Training 

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree (Instructional Design, Education, and Nursing degrees preferred). 
  • Proficiency in using content design tools (Microsoft, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Suite (Storyline/Rise))
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams)
  • Familiarity with e-learning authoring and content creation tools
  • Strong project management experience (Smartsheet preferred)

Working Conditions 

  • Ability to travel 30% of the time

Preferred Skills and Experience 

  • Sterile processing certification (CCSVP, CRCST, or equivalent) from HSPA or AAMI
  • Background in healthcare training, instructional design, or technical writing
  • Experience in creating content for global audiences and compliance-driven training programs
  • Experience working in regulated industries is a plus (medical devices, healthcare, biotech, etc.)

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The target salary ranges are listed.

Base Salary Range Region 1: $133,200 USD – $191,600 USD

Base Salary Range Region 2: $113,200 USD – $162,800 USD

Shift: Day

Workplace Type: Remote – This job will be remote and/or the job is designed to be performed outside of the office. Employees will come onsite when requested by the leader.
