About the Role

We’re seeking an ELA Assessment Designer with extensive experience in developing assessments in line with the Common Core and State standards to join our Assessment Design team at our AI & Data Science department. This diverse group of professionals includes learning scientists, assessment designers, AI/ML engineers, and data scientists. Our AI & Data Science department drives the vision and development of capabilities in support of a comprehensive learning platform featuring personalized and engaging learning experiences to develop and measure key competencies across all the academic domains.

Reporting to the Director of Assessment Design, you will design, review and collaborate with others to create rigorous formative and diagnostic assessments for new and existing BrainPOP products in support of the development of ELA skills, be proactive, and use data to drive changes in BrainPOP products.

In this role, you will:

  • Collaborate on the design, development, and iteration of formative and diagnostic assessments that drive BrainPOP products to build mastery and cultivate deeper learning for ALL students
  • Ensure that the BrainPOP assessments meet rigorous standards of accessibility, validity, reliability, and effectiveness to drive knowledge and skills development 
  • Work closely with learning designers, learning scientists, efficacy researchers, and engineers to ensure that students are working toward achieving learning objectives and measuring learning processes  
  • Work with product managers, project managers, product designers, and user experience researchers to help architect, plan, and prioritize improvements and iterations to help manage stakeholder expectations and feedback
  • Help integrate AI powered diagnostic and reporting capabilities that provide further learning and assessment support to teachers and students
  • Cultivate a strong collaborative culture while working with designers, developers, and engineers
  • Manage timelines and expectations for assessment capabilities, including coordination across internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with content teams to develop  quality learning and assessment content at scale based on fine-tuned generative-AI models
  • Other duties as assigned

You Have

  • Proven experience with designing formative and summative ELA assessments for K-8 digital learning/assessment solutions 
  • Deep knowledge of literacy standards and state assessment design trends across a national landscape in grades K-8
  • In-depth knowledge of the current literacy research base as well as a practical understanding of what teachers need in the classroom
  • ELA teaching experience in K-8 (classroom face-to-face or online)
  • Clear communication skills and a collaborative spirit, with the ability to work across groups and provide and implement feedback at nearly every phase of implementation
  • Organized, with a strong attention to detail, and able to juggle multiple tasks under tight deadlines
  • Solid writing and communication skills
  • Comfortable with rapidly changing environments  

On Your Resume

  • Undergraduate degree in Elementary Education, English Language Arts or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in designing formative and summative ELA assessments for K-8 digital learning/assessment solutions 
  • Ability to work within an agile and iterative creation process
  • 2+ years of K-8 ELA teaching experience, preferably elementary grades
  • Familiarity with innovative models of ELA assessment, including reading, vocabulary, writing and other literacy tasks
  • PreK and/or elementary experience is highly desirable

The starting salary for this role is between $80,000- $95,000, depending on skills and experience. We take a geo-neutral approach to compensation within the US, meaning that we pay based on job function and level, not location. For all other countries, we have competitive pay bands based on market standards. Individual compensation decisions are based on a number of factors, including experience level, skill set, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. We expect the majority of the candidates who are offered roles at our company to fall healthily throughout the range based on these factors. We recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description as posted. If that ends up being the case, the updated salary range will be communicated with you as a candidate.
