Position:

Full-time

Location:

We are seeking a creative and motivated Writing Specialist who is intimately familiar with creative writing, specifically essay writing, prompt-based narrative writing, and similar creative non-fiction writing. Our Writing Specialist will work closely with our College Admissions Consulting Team to collaborate, brainstorm, and provide input for the essay writing and editing process for students.

While students themselves will provide the content necessary for write-ups, it will be the responsibility of the Writing Specialist to comprehensively edit this content to present students in a way that will make them stand out in the college application process.

This position will require a high level of skill and flexibility, and you will also be required to do research on a vast array of topics, depending on the interests and activities of each individual student. Commitment will be expected during the college season, which begins in June and lasts until December. There will also be opportunities to be actively involved in all stages of essay drafting. This position is outstanding for long-term growth and can eventually lead to a long-term career.

If you are interested in helping students from across different backgrounds to differentiate themselves in their applications and achieve their goal of entering their dream college or university, we would love for you to join our team as an expert Writing Specialist!

Eligibility:

  • Exceptional English verbal and writing skills with a strong grip on grammar
  • Experience working for an education consulting company specializing in college admissions is preferred but not required.
  • Currently enrolled in or graduated from a 4-year college course at a reputable university

 Responsibilities:

  • Brainstorming: The Writing Specialist will be asked to brainstorm with the College Admissions Consultant about the direction of the essay.
  • Condensation: the Writing Specialist will be asked to condense the rough drafts to fit within the designated word limit
  • Editing: The essay may go through extensive edits (up to 15 drafts) before finalization.
  • The Writing Specialist will be asked to follow the specified comments made by the College Admissions Consultant to edit for clarity, style, flow, and structure.
  • Proofreading: The Writing Specialist will be asked to proofread the student’s essay for grammar and spelling.
  • Research: The college admissions process and policies change on a yearly basis, requiring up-to-date information to properly service our clients. The writing specialist will also research different topics to familiarize themselves with students’ interests and activities.
  • Business Development & Administration: During the off-season, the Writing Specialist can expect to work on projects that contribute to the overall administration and growth of Cardinal Education.
