Job Purpose

Reporting to the Director of Online Learning, the Learning Technologist assists with building and maintaining courses and organizations within Winthrop’s learning management system (LMS), implementing software integrations within the LMS, and supporting faculty, staff and students in the use of learning technologies.

Job Summary

Assists learning designers and faculty in building and maintaining courses and organizations within the LMS.

  • Builds course content according to the course design schedule determined by the learning designers.
  • Participates in learning design consultations, as needed.
  • Performs course copies.
  • Performs quality assurance reviews of settings, links, text, formatting, etc.
  • Performs accessibility reviews.
  • Manages video conversion, editing and closed captioning.

Assists with phone, virtual, and in-person technical support and training for faculty, staff and students on the LMS and integrated software.

  • Submits and monitors Help Desk tickets.
  • Creates and updates tutorial documents and videos.
  • Escalates issues to the LMS Administrator as appropriate.

Manages implementation and maintenance of software integrations in courses and organizations.

  • Establishes, tests and maintains third-party software integrations in courses and organizations.
  • Participates in planning meetings with faculty to determine their needs.
  • Solicits and recommends updates and new material for the department website.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in course development, multimedia production and editing, creating reusable learning objects, and using e-learning software.
  • Experience with learning management systems.
  • Experience with Windows and Mac operating systems and Google applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in online learning or learning technologies.
  • Experience with the Blackboard Ultra LMS.
  • Experience conducting course quality assurance and accessibility reviews.
  • Experience with assessment, web development and graphic design.
