The UCI Paul Merage School of Business’ approach prepares students to adapt to the ever-changing business environment and face head-on the challenges brought on by disruption. To lead in the disruption of today and tomorrow, we need to understand these technologies and master their strategic implications. One way we are accomplishing this is by using cutting edge instructional approaches and technologies through digital course and program delivery.

Our digital learning department spends dedicated one-on-one time with faculty to develop digital courses that focus on optimizing student learning. With our MBA and Master’s classes and the expansion of our BA undergraduate online offerings, we are changing the way our students take digital courses. Our digital learning team focuses on three overarching course design goals, which are to create synergies for minimizing transactional distance, incorporating diverse opportunities for learning connections and designing active digital learning experiences.

Just as the production of goods and services is changing in business, so are we capitalizing on new technologies to build community, provide access and create world class learning experiences. By reconceptualizing the path by which students learn, we are doing our part to build flexibility and access in education, bolstering the American Dream.

Your Role on the Team

Serves as an innovative resource to business school faculty in their efforts to design and develop captivatingly rich, learner-centric courses. They are proficient in merging design-thinking principles with technology inspired course development strategies to guide faculty in adapting course content and activities to digital learning behaviors and preferences. The LX Designer will partner closely with faculty and/or subject matter experts to conceptualize, plan, design, and develop content that cultivates engagement, uses technology to foster connections, and promotes active learning experiences. The LX Designer is well-versed in graphic design, instructional multimedia production, research-based learning principles pertinent learning technology tools, and project management. In addition, they possess expertise and knowledge on various pedagogical approaches and best practices for digital course delivery in a business school context while also showcasing competency in educational technology, project management, course quality assurance, and learning management system (LMS) user interface design.

Note: This is a one-year contract appointment with the possibility of renewal.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $69,500 – $90,000 (Annual).

Required:

  • Thorough knowledge of functional area and understands how work within one course may impact work being done on other courses or in other areas.
  • Thorough analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and strong collaboration and negotiation skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of instructional design principles and learning strategies, including needs analysis, backward design, learning outcomes and assessment design, and instructional approaches including lecture, discussion, activities, projects, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience with industry-standard productivity tools (e.g., GenAI, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Asana)
  • Thorough knowledge of the technical tools and platforms required to achieve the delivery of engaging and media-rich online learning content, and of trends in the use and effectiveness of educational technology and learning.
  • Thorough knowledge and skills with relevant business software and cloud-based systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of applying learning theories and educational methodologies.
  • Advanced level skills in application of planning, resourcing and monitoring of effective design life cycles of training and other learning and performance solutions to support the organization.
  • Knowledge to conduct appropriate job and task analyses in the context of instructional design of technical or specialized training.
  • Understanding of FERPA and copyright guidelines for the classroom (i.e. Fair Use, the TEACH Act, etc.)
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in digital course design and delivery using instructional design/learning experience design practices in higher education.

Preferred:

  • Thorough knowledge of organization policies and procedures, including policies that impact online course development.
  • Professional coursework in instructional design, educational technology and/or related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quality online course frameworks, learning data analytics, analysis, and metrics reporting.
  • Working knowledge with professional eLearning multimedia and video production processes and associated editing software tools (i.e. Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, iMovie, Camtasia Studio).
  • Demonstrated experiencing producing courses using eLearning tools, such as Articulate Storyline, Captivate, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.
  • Working knowledge with the Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design).
  • Understanding of business school curriculum such as accounting, finance, economics, strategy, management information systems, decision sciences, marketing, and organizational behavior.
