About The Role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Learning and Development Manager to build and implement a comprehensive learning and development (L&D) strategy from the ground up. Reporting directly to the Chief People Officer (CPO), this role will be instrumental in shaping the organization’s culture of continuous learning and growth, aligning all L&D initiatives with the company’s strategic objectives. The L&D Manager role has a compensation range of $80,000 – $120,000, based on skills and experience. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth, VC-backed environment and will work closely with the Chief People Officer to deliver impactful programs that support our people and business goals. In addition to driving L&D initiatives, this role will collaborate with the Talent Acquisition (TA) Manager and People Coordinator to integrate learning into the onboarding process and collaborate on other HR projects and initiatives as a part of a small, agile HR team.
This role will be a blend of hands-on training, facilitation, and high-level strategy, ensuring our employees have the knowledge, skills, and growth opportunities they need to excel. You will oversee onboarding, core skills training, leadership development, individual development planning, and succession planning—ensuring our approach to learning supports both immediate performance and long-term talent retention.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement a structured L&D framework that aligns with company goals, covering onboarding, professional development, and leadership growth.
- Own and manage the full training lifecycle, from needs assessment to program design, delivery, and evaluation.
- Ensure L&D programs support business growth, employee engagement, and long-term succession planning.
- Develop a visual roadmap (e.g., competency matrix, learning journey maps) that illustrates employee growth from onboarding through advanced skill development.
- Ensure the framework aligns with business objectives, role-specific skills, leadership development, and long-term talent retention.
- Continuously refine and communicate the program, making learning expectations and opportunities clear for employees and leadership.
- Launch, build, and maintain a 4-week structured onboarding program covering sales, service, systems, processes, carriers, product knowledge, and company culture.
- Design and implement a suite of training materials for both new hires and existing employees.
- Lead the development of an online Sales Academy, providing scalable, self-paced learning opportunities.
- Establish monthly Learning Labs, where company leaders provide in-depth training and educational content.
- Partner with the Chief People Officer and business leaders to create personalized development plans that help employees grow in their careers.
- Collaborate with the Chief People Officer, to implement a structured succession planning framework to identify and develop high-potential talent.
- Establish career tracks and coaching programs to enhance internal mobility and retention.
- Leverage learning technologies (LMS, e-learning, AI-driven learning tools) to scale training and measure effectiveness.
- Define and track key L&D performance metrics—including training participation, skills progression, onboarding success, and retention.
- Provide updates and communications to the business and leadership on outstanding trainings, new offerings and compliance.
- Continuously improve programs based on employee feedback, engagement data, and business needs.
- Work with sales, service, and operations teams to develop role-specific training.

- Identify areas for continuous improvement of processes to increase operational excellence
- Collaborate with carrier partners to coordinate training visits, product knowledge sessions, and compliance education.
- Act as a strategic partner to leadership, ensuring L&D initiatives align with overall business and HR objectives.
- Support key HR initiatives, including performance review cycles, goal-setting processes, and employee engagement efforts.
- Assist with open enrollment and benefits education, ensuring employees understand available options.
- Partner with HR leadership to contribute to organizational development efforts, including culture-building and employee experience initiatives.
- Provide occasional support in HR communications, including policy updates, employee handbooks, and internal messaging.
- Work cross-functionally with HR and business leaders on special projects related to talent management, performance initiatives, and organizational change efforts.

Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in Learning & Development, Organizational Development, or Talent Management.
- Proven ability to design, implement, and scale L&D programs in a fast-growth company.
- Demonstrated ability to
- Experience with individual development planning, career pathing, and succession planning.
- Strong facilitation skills—able to lead engaging training sessions and coach leaders.
- Knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design, and leadership development.
- Experience working cross-functionally with business leaders, SMEs, and external partners.
- Familiarity with LMS platforms, e-learning tools, and blended learning approaches.

Desired Characteristics
- 2+ years experience in a VC-backed company, start up, or fast-paced growth organization, strongly desired
- Experience working in a small, collaborative environment that requires multiple hats
- Experience in insurance, financial services, or other regulated industries requiring licensing and certifications
- Background in building training programs from scratch in a scaling environment.
- Certifications in L&D (e.g., CPLP, ATD, or similar)
