Hiring: Learning and Development Specialist (JCDP)

We’re looking for a Learning and Development Specialist to join our small but mighty program team that’s committed to helping ACFO-ACAF’s members build the skills and competencies they need to advance in their careers. You will work with in-house subject matter experts to develop curriculum and training materials and you will be delivering courses and workshops in both official languages, online and in-person. Flexibility, adaptability and a passion for lifelong learning are key!

A quick but important note on diversity and inclusion

The criteria listed below represent the “typical” skills and experience one would need to be successful in this position but as an employer committed to diversity and inclusion we also recognize that not everyone has had access to a “typical” education or career trajectory.

If you believe your lived experience and accumulated skills make you a strong candidate despite leaving a few boxes unchecked, let us know. “I haven’t done [this] but I have done [that] and I believe that would make me successful because [reasons]” cover letters will be given full consideration.

You’ll definitely need:

  • Some experience teaching, leading seminars or delivering workshops
  • Strong communication skills in both official languages
  • The ability and willingness to travel within Canada from time to time (costs fully covered)

You’ll probably need:

  • Experience leading courses and workshops using digital meeting platforms like MS Teams
  • At least some understanding of adult learning best practices and curriculum development (do you know your Knowles? Good with Gagne?)

And it would be great if you had:

  • A certificate in instructional design or post-secondary credentials in adult education
  • Experience working with Learning Management Systems or curriculum development applications
  • Experience with measurement and evaluation strategies for training programs

Here’s what we offer in return:

  • Competitive salary within the range of $75,500 – $90,000 depending on your experience and which of the asset criteria you can bring to the table
  • An annual pro-rated bilingualism bonus
  • Generous RRSP contribution matching
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and extended insurance benefits
  • All the tools you need to work comfortably from home, including an iPhone and office furniture
  • Annual budgets and allowances for professional development, recreation and wellness, public transit, and more

About ACFO-ACAF

We’re the largest union in North America that exclusively represents finance and audit professionals. With more than 7,000 members, we support and defend workers that play a vital role in the accountable and efficient running of the federal government and NAV Canada.

We’re currently a hybrid workplace, with the majority of our work done from home or on-site delivering training. Several times a month we work as a team from the ACFO-ACAF office, though, so you’ll need to live within easy access of the National Capital Region. The office is located in Ottawa’s desirable Westboro neighbourhood, steps from public transit with free parking on site and fresh free (and good!) coffee

Finally, ACFO-ACAF is a dedicated advocate for equity and is committed to ensuring representation in our workforce. We welcome applications from all walks of life, including women, members of racialized groups, First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples, people with disabilities, and 2SLGBTQ+ individuals.
