Job Description

Huntington Ingalls Industries, Mission Technologies Division is seeking a highly-skilled, knowledgeable, and motivated mid-level instructional systems designer to support our Department of Defense, customers.  The applicant will be a part of a team that designs and develops interactive courseware for our customers.  The position supports our team based in Alexandria, VA (Kingstowne).

The applicant will require strong analytical skills and must be a self-starter with great initiative and the ability to work independently with minimum supervision.  Work requires the designer to be a team player who interacts daily with the software team and weekly with the customer. 

Duties will be under the general direction of the project and program manager and within the scope of the work derived from a contract with a government customer.

Essential Job Responsibilities

The designer will perform a wide range of tasks to support the development of software and security training solutions, including:

  • Utilizing a variety of delivery channels to achieve desired performance (instructor-led, computer-based training courses, virtual web-based programs, blended solutions, job aids, etc.)
  • Designing and developing curriculum & course materials for participants in concert with domain subject matter experts
  • Converting written materials and/or training requirements to interactive courseware, including writing plans and storyboards
  • Evaluating materials during development for instructional alignment and appropriate styles, standards, and specifications such as Section 508 and Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM)
  • Review and/or copyedit content.
  • Participating in the daily team stand-up calls
  • Conducting briefings and technical meetings for customers and potential customers
  • Performing additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

10 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 8 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 14 years relevant experience.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design, Education, Adult Learning, Educational Technology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or a related field.
  • Ability to analyze and de-conflict information from a variety of sources to form instructional sound course content
  • Ability to create supporting course documentation, including design documents, storyboards, art style guides, and learning objectives
  • Familiarity with course development tools such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Experience in presenting to and interacting with stakeholders and senior SMEs in a consultative manner
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Must be Secret Clearance eligible

Preferred Requirements

  • Familiarity with agile software development processes
  • Master’s Degree is preferred in Instructional Design, Education, Adult Learning, Educational Technology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or a related field
