The Opportunity        

The Professional Services Instructional Designer understands how to ensure that the learning experiences we create and deliver to educators is relevant, engaging, ignites passion for teaching and learning, and enables teachers to implement Scholastic’s programs and best practices in literacy instruction. Reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Content Development within Professional Learning Services, the Instructional Designer will be instrumental in creating and implementing engaging content.

Responsibilities

Develop Engaging Learning Content:

Create a range of assets, including PowerPoint presentations, videos, participant guides, online materials, and courses, in alignment with the Professional Learning Services (PLS) roadmap.  Design learning that: 

  • Can support multiple delivery modalities including face to face, online, and hybrid experiences 
  • Meets IACET accreditation standards and version according to a continuous cycle of learner feedback  

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including finance, product management, platform, product development, production, authors, sales, and marketing, to develop content that aligns with organizational strategic goals and customer learning objectives.   

Content Distribution and Transparency:

  • Maintain and enhance systems for the distribution and dissemination of content. Ensure transparency and visibility for key stakeholders, recognizing the importance of clear communication.  

Quality Assurance:

  • Standardize and quality assure content assets produced by team members, ensuring consistency and adherence to standards.    

Vendor Management:

  • Liaise with contractors and vendors as needed, providing replicable processes, guidance and support to ensure the successful and timely completion of projects.

Qualifications

How You Can Fit (Qualifications)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • 2+ years of experience designing learning for an educator audience   
  • An understanding of educator needs; teaching experience is a plus, especially a literacy background
  • Strong research, organizational, and learning skills  
  • Proficiency in a range of tools to support creation and design of assets including Learning Management Systems, authoring software (e.g. Adobe Captivate), the Microsoft Suite, and project management tools such as Smartsheet.    
  • Excellent writing skills, as well as the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively  
  • The ability to juggle multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines  
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time  

Experience and Education:  

Required: Degree in education or related field 

Preferred: K-8 classroom experience and knowledge of best practices in literacy instruction. Degree or certification in instructional design or design thinking.
