Job Description:

The Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law seeks a dynamic individual to assist the New Education Initiatives team and individual faculty in the design and development of online courses and course materials using multiple learning management systems (and other instructional technologies). Under general direction, assists faculty and/or other subject matter experts in the design and development of learning materials using multiple instructional technologies and applying best practices in teaching and learning.

Salary Range: $51,500 – $56,500 per year; DOE

Essential Duties:

The successful candidate will be responsible for and have duties in the following areas:

  • In collaboration with faculty and/or other subject matter experts, designs and develops engaging, interactive and instructionally sound learning materials, including assessments, in alignment with learning objectives and goals.
  • Utilizes and recommends effective and creative uses of technology to enhance instruction including content authoring tools, document creation applications, presentation tools and other technology resources to develop custom products.
  • Assist in writing learning objectives to incorporate content standards and curates content in support of objectives.
  • Evaluates training needs, designs/redesigns training programs and supplemental materials and implements training programs to meet changing needs and objectives.
  • Collaborates with others (e.g. software developers, technologists, project managers, graphic designers) to review and edit content and integrate contributions to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of design and development models and processes. 
  • Assists with evaluation of technology effectiveness, quality assurance, editing, adapting content and implementing recommended changes to improve learning.
  • Provides troubleshooting, technology, documentation, event information and educational design consultation support to faculty and subject matter experts.
  • Develops and maintains resources such as tutorials, reference material, design standards, content resources, templates, and tools for instructional development.
  • Remains current on, evaluates, identifies and communicates best practices, learning theories, and instructional technologies, and incorporates these into content standards and learning objectives.
  • Contributes to custom software design specifications and documentation.
  • Assumes or coordinates other duties or projects as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field AND Three (3) years of providing learning/instructional design and/or technology development services. Or, any equivalent combination of experience or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of instructional design and pedagogical approaches, practices, and tools for diverse audiences/environments.
  • Skill in using a variety of industry-leading technologies and products for development of content, presentations, web pages, web applications and tutorials.
  • Skill in using learning management systems.
  • Skill in troubleshooting computer and web technology issues on common platforms.
  • Skill in effective organization and time-management in an environment with multiple priorities and short deadlines.
  • Skill in both verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Working Environment:

  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals
  • Evidence of effective communication skills
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include or are subject to resolution of conflicts.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
