Job Description:

Summary

Iowa State University’s Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) is seeking to fill the position of Instructional Designer II. As a part of the CELT Instructional Design team, this position will partner with subject matter experts to design and develop effective online courses and programs. Detailed-oriented, an individual in this position will:

  • Work closely with various stakeholders to create engaging and effective learning experiences using centralized design tools, processes, templates, and customizations.
  • Apply the Quality Matters standards of course design and learning theories to create online courses with a consistent look and feel and intuitive navigation.
  • Recognize and analyze teaching and learning needs and offer data-driven decisions and best practices for effective course design.
  • Aid in creating compelling learning objectives and ensure alignment between all components of course design.
  • Lead course design projects of moderate scope and maintain well-organized project documentation.

The ideal candidate will have excellent listening skills, along with strong oral and written communication, organizational, and time management abilities. They will have the ability to provide meaningful insights and assist in making complex decisions, analyze data for course improvements, and work under deadlines and move projects forward.

Established in 1993, the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching provides resources for faculty, staff, graduate students and postdocs interested in teaching. Its mission is to support, promote and enhance teaching effectiveness and student learning at Iowa State University.

Level Guidelines

  • Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals
  • Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues
  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems

  • Provides guidance to students
