The Office of Human Resources supports the University mission through the development and implementation of policies, programs, and practices that attract, compensate, retain, and reward faculty and staff.

About the Position:

The Instructional Designer and Trainer supports the efforts of the Organizational Development and Learning (ODL) team by providing training and professional development design, development, and facilitation for faculty and staff. The ideal candidate will be ready to join a dynamic, fast-paced team committed to providing high quality learning and development opportunities and will be excited about the opportunity to design and deliver engaging and accessible e-learning products to faculty and staff. 

Responsibilities:

  • Designs and delivers e-learning products using modern learning technologies. Applies knowledge of a broad range of training methodologies to create accessible, engaging, and outcome-driven e-learning for faculty and staff. Partners with subject matter experts and the Organizational Development and Learning (ODL) team to design learning based on the ADDIE model. Applies knowledge of adult learning theories and principles in curriculum development and delivery of instruction. Evaluates effectiveness of training/class objectives and materials and determines program changes and direction. 
  • Collaborates with the ODL team to identify organizational development (OD) needs to develop curricula, materials, and courses for faculty and staff learning opportunities. This includes consulting with units that have requested OD services from the team to identify source of request and designing an appropriate OD tool to facilitate and meet their identified OD need. May also include developing training opportunities and program management. 
  • Works with the MasonLEAPS Administrator to ensure e-learnings are uploaded, maintained, and tracked within the Learning Management System (LMS). Provides a high level of customer service to faculty and staff enrolled in trainings via email, chat, and telephone. Works with the Director of ODL and ODL team to create playlists and other e-learning opportunities to meet objectives.
  • Facilitates in-person, hybrid, or blended professional development and training opportunities to faculty and staff; may include New Employee Orientation, Supervisor Boot Camp, Emerging Leaders Supervisor Series, Human Resources topics, etc. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Some experience in designing e-learning, delivering training, facilitation, and classroom management and experience with technologies and software to deliver training;
  • Knowledge and experience working with Articulate or other e-learning design software to design meaningful asynchronous learning content;
  • Ability to facilitate delivery of material to diverse audiences;
  • Ability to manage a classroom;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certificate in e-learning design;
  • Experience working in higher education or human resources;
  • Experience designing, delivering, and evaluating training programs;
  • Experience using the ADDIE model to deliver training to diverse audiences;
  • Experience managing trainings in a Learning Management System;
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and experience facilitating training content for adults; and
  • Knowledge of organizational development practices.
