Job Description

The College of Health Solutions (CHS) seeks a fully remote Instructional Designer to join their Instructional Support team. This opportunity might be perfect for you if you are passionate about creating engaging and accessible learning experiences for diverse learners while working with faculty and other subject matter experts to design high-quality and inclusive courses.

This individual will support CHS faculty, subject matter experts, and other staff in designing and developing courses and course materials that apply adult learning theory with instructional design methodology while utilizing appropriate technology.

This position will also act as the lead Instructional Designer on all special projects through our revenue-generating recharge center that requires extensive knowledge of various educational technologies (Canvas, Articulate Storyline 360, Articulate Rise, Adobe Captivate, PlayPosit, VoiceThread, Yellowdig, etc.).

Flexible work options:
This position is eligible for Hybrid work. This is an arrangement where employees spend a minimum of 60% of their regular workweek at their primary ASU work location.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field AND Three (3) years of providing learning/instructional design and/or technology development services. Or, any equivalent combination of experience or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

The College of Health Solutions (CHS) is dedicated to translating scientific advances into practical interventions to improve health outcomes through education, research and service. Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Master’s Degree in Learning/Instructional Design or Educational Technology.
  • Teaching experience in either a K-12 or collegiate setting.
  • Experience with the Canvas learning management system.
  • Experience with direct faculty consultation.
  • Experience in designing, developing, and delivering workshops and training.
  • Experience in designing and developing training materials, including job aids, online tutorials, and other multimedia materials

Essential Duties

  • Assists individual faculty in the design and development of engaging, interactive, and instructionally-sound immersive, hybrid, and online course materials.
  • Designs, creates, and revises instructional content for faculty and clients utilizing e-authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline 360, Articulate Rise, and Adobe Captivate.
  • Provides consultative assistance to faculty to recommend effective and creative uses of educational technology to enhance instruction, including Canvas LMS, media display and storage tools, and multiple third-party applications.
  • Uses applications such as desktop content authoring tools, document creation applications, and presentation tools to develop custom products to meet user needs.
  • Evaluates and remains current on emerging technologies that have potential value for improving teaching and learning through team communication, presentations, training sessions, conferences, and publications.
  • Effectively manages and maintains detailed project documentation on multiple short- and long-term projects.
  • Mentors new and experienced faculty in course design, curriculum, assessments, active learning, and practical instructional considerations.
  • Attends, and reports on, numerous ASU meetings as a representative of the CHS Instructional Support Team.
  • Researches and produces clear documentation and other instructional materials (websites, multimedia, and online tutorials) to support faculty effectiveness and student learning.
  • Directly assists in the planning and developing of new courses using backwards design methodologies.
  • Evaluates course flow, design, and assessments and provides focused improvement suggestions for aligning with Quality Matters and other established standards.
  • Collaborates with Instructional Designers, Academic Technologists, Project Managers, and others to increase course design’s effectiveness and efficiency and develop instructional models and processes.
  • Collaborates with the CHS Instructional Support Multimedia team in the cooperative development of enhanced graphics, lecture videos, marketing materials, and other course enhancements.
  • Keeps faculty informed about instructional technology events and resources.
  • Provides troubleshooting and other technical support for CHS online, immersion, and hybrid courses and learning products used by faculty, students, and staff.
