Job Description

The Instructional Designer will be responsible for analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating learning for Sherwin-Williams Performance Coatings Group.

Responsibilities

Core Responsiblities And Tasks

The Instructional Designer will be responsible for analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating learning for Sherwin-Williams Performance Coatings Group. Following the standard ADDIE instructional design processes, job duties include, but may not be limited to:

  • Serve as Performance Coatings Group subject matter expert in instructional design, supporting various functions
  • Use adult learning theory to guide the design process
  • Provide support and participates in the implementation of training deliverables
  • Conduct on-going evaluation of new and extant training modules. Leverage system analytics, learner performance and feedback to continuously improve materials, performance metrics, and user experience
  • Participate in the needs analysis, design and development of training modules
  • Interact with SME’s/L&OD Lead in planning and scoping requirements for curriculum
  • Provide consultative feedback and updates to project stakeholders
  • Provide coaching to PCG Learning & Development team members to develop skills in instructional design
  • Storyboarding, authoring, and development of e-learning content and blended learning solutions
  • Design, develop and provide production/editing services for audio, photographic, video, and print media assets
  • Participate in beta deliveries of new courses; occasional travel for needs analysis and pilot support
  • Develop course-specific job aids and performance support materials
  • Select appropriate instructional methods, defining time frames and preparing training materials in physical and digital formats
  • Define and document learning objectives and assessment methods
  • Create focused training activities to the appropriate audience and environment focusing training on what function the participants need to learn to perform/do to be most successful in their job
  • Design eLearning and training activities focusing on optimizing user journey, engagement, while reducing user pain points and task abandonment
  • Partner with vendors and stakeholders to create e-learning, mobile learning, videos, other digital assets, and leverage technologies for effective learning and development options for teammates. Manages production of courses adhering to project plans and deadlines.
  • Review and test new and revised curriculum offerings from other team members, providing feedback and suggestions for improvement; contributes to new curriculum or program ideas
  • Conduct quality assurance tests on all eLearning and video projects to ensure a flawless user experience
  • Work proactively with subject matter experts and L&D manager on training development needs and gain the confidence of management by demonstrating professionalism and training expertise in a dynamic, changing environment
  • Partner with technology team for testing and migrating deliverables to the LMS
  • Work with content/curriculum owners to ensure training programs, modules, files, and materials are up-to-date and relevant
  • Provide consultative feedback and support to internal training managers on training content, design, and migration
  • Proactively and continuously focus on self-education and development and implementing best practices in training and development through webinars, seminars, and organizations
  • Travel to company locations for needs analysis, gathering content, SME consultations, educational needs, and meetings as needed (approximately 10% travel)
  • Other duties as assigned that support the mission of learning and development of Sherwin-Williams

Qualifications

Position Requirements

Formal Education:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design or related discipline (e.g., Instructional Design, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Adult Education, Instructional Technology)

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree in related discipline

Knowledge & Experience:

Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years training design, and development experience with analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of e-learning, mobile learning, instructor-led, and blended learning programs
  • Minimum two (2) years project management skills
  • Minimum four (4) years of experience in using Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Minimum two (2) years using rapid development authoring tools (i.e., Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise 360, or Captivate)

Preferred:

  • 2 years in Adobe Creative Suite (i.e., InDesign, Photoshop, Premier Pro, Audition, Illustrator)
  • Proficiency (2+) years in Articulate 360 (i.e., Storyline, Rise 360)
  • Ability to work with individuals at all levels and disciplines across the organization to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to analyze and draw meaningful insights from learner feedback and performance data
  • Ability to conduct qualitative, formative, and summative review of new learning initiative data, as well as existing training/educational materials
  • Ability to diplomatically obtain buy-in from teammates, leadership, and organization on new recommendations and changes needed to move the team forward
  • Demonstrated knowledge of training and development industry best practices, instructional design, and adult learning methodology
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and creative problem-solving skills
  • Able to analyze the latest technology offerings from a learning industry perspective and make recommendations and business case to leadership
  • Demonstrated knowledge of training and development industry best practices, instructional design, and adult learning methodology
  • Vendor management and relationship building experience

Travel Requirements: (Time Spent Away From Home Or Other Typical Office Location)

  • 10%

Work Schedule:

  • Monday through Friday, 37.5 hours per week
