Job Description

ASU’s University Technology Office (UTO) is seeking an Instructional Designer to use standard instructional design practices to create, deliver and evaluate training for ASU staff and faculty. Must have demonstrated experience creating and revising instruction, managing projects, working with subject matter experts, delivering training and consulting with others about improving existing training and business processes. The position will support current teaching and learning activities as well as contribute towards identifying and enabling future learning approaches and technologies. Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled, office cubicle setting in the Tempe area, subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse
  • Required to stand and deliver training for varying lengths of time.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include or are subject to resolution of conflicts.

Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. Occasional evenings and limited weekends may be necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field. Three (3) years of providing learning/instructional design and/or technology development services. Or, any equivalent combination of experience or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design and pedagogical approaches, practices, and tools for diverse audiences/environments.
  • Experience in using a variety of industry-leading technologies and products for effective and efficient development of content, presentations, web pages, web applications and tutorials.

Essential Duties

  • Create, revise, deliver and evaluate instructionally sound, engaging training to new hires and other staff and faculty using known, common instructional design processes such as ADDIE and Agile methodologies.
  • Use technology including Learning Management systems (Canvas, blackboard, cornerstone, etc.) and authoring tools (Adobe, Articulate, Google, Microsoft, etc) to create self-paced training and training to be delivered via Zoom or in person.
  • Write clear, usable learning objectives tied to common rubrics when developing or revising training.
  • Create training with an embedded evaluation strategy that allows regular review of training effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with others (e.g. software developers, technologists, project managers, graphic designers) to review and edit content.
  • Support evaluation of training quality and effectiveness by editing, adapting content and implementing recommended changes to improve learning.
  • Provide Instructional Design Consultation to staff upon request.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge resources including tutorials, reference materials, design standards, content resources, templates, and tools for instructional development.
  • Remain current on, evaluate, identify and communicate best practices, learning theories, and instructional technologies and incorporates these into content standards and learning objectives.
  • Take responsibility for fostering a supportive team environment, University culture, advancing our values, and championing engagement in all its forms — collaborating across our teams as well as participating in UTO/ASU events and programs.
